Hot on the heals of its Sony Ericsson P900 development kit Metrowerks have released the promised Siemens SX1 kit - just in time for Christmas! Limited to 100, the kit includes the usual combination of Metrowerks CodeWarrior and a phone with international plug adaptor. A dummy SIM is provided so the phone can be used for application testing without tieing up a functional one, however I would imagine that it won't see much use at least initially.

Although the SX1 Developer Kit was announced some time ago it represents Metrowerks commitment to supporting Symbian OS development. The emergence of tools from Borland clearly presents Metrowerks with some strong competition. In addition to their longer experience with Symbian OS development being able to produce early access development kits like these is another area where Metrowerks currently has an advantage.
