"Keeping an eye on the Symbian ecosystem" www.SymbianOne.com
Welcome once again to another Symbian news round-up - To begin I'd like to remind you about a fabulous and growing resource that we've created over at LinkedIn - The SymbianOne LinkedIn Group. Now with almost 800 professionals taking part, this useful networking resource provides you with a place to ask questions and start discussion, post your news, share tips, post or look for a job, promote an event or ?? the key is that everything here is focused on mobile technologies and in particular, the Symbian OS. Just this week some of the members have posted the following: a request for consulting services; tips on developing a social media marketing program; an update on the latest contest from Forum Nokia; details of the WeRok service and enhanced support for S60; and details of the JAva Technology awards. You can join the group and take part in the discussion here, or, if your interested in mobile location-aware technologies, check out this LBS focused LinkedIn Group that is 1,500 members strong! Remember you can follow us on Twitter via @symbianone Something cool for you mobile photo fanatics... Flickr has officially rolled out their integration with Twitter via Flickr2Twitter - In a relatively quiet move, Flickr recently added Twitter integration to their service - enter Flickr2Twitter. Using the service, Flickr users can now easily "blog" their existing photo to Twitter with one click or they can send their photos directly to flickr and Twitter in one move from their mobile or via email. Flickr2Twitter Beta can be found HERE. Oh.. one more fabulous tip for those of you hooked on sharing your media.. check out the new thismoment (supported by Symbian foundation) its amazing! I've had the pleasure of being one of the lucky few to take part in a Nokia N97 testing program, enabling me to put this wonderful smartphone to the test (See the unboxing video here and a few test photos here). Overall I'm very impressed with the look and feel of the device - it definitely turns some heads! Some thumbs -up on the N97 so far for: an excellent camera and superb high-def video; integration of Ovi mail service (a real bonus!); comfortable touch UI and form factor; improved GPS and tracking; relatively rugged structure (just don't drop it); large screen size (although the small fonts are a little hard on the eyes); and simple set-up of some of the integrated apps (particularly JoikuSpot and Qik). A few disapointments I've found with the device to date include: somewhat cumbersome access and integration with Ovi share; clumsy feel when answering calls and unlocking device results in many accidental hangs ups; lack of supported and included apps (S60 5) - I'd really like to see Gravity Twitter client and definitely Sports Tracker shipping on this device. Overall though, the N97 delivers more than what I expected and I am definitely going to have a hard time convincing myself to send this loaner unit back to the originator ;0) Have a happy 4th of July celebration and for those of you on the Colorado Front Range perhaps I'll see you tonight at Ignite Boulder...
