WELCOME...
Welcome once again to our bi-weekly Symbian news roundup... today we'll use this opportunity to introduce you to a number of interesting mobile technology news announcements as well as a tips for you developers interested in contests and winning some great prizes.

Just this week I received a call from a rep at Volantis who wanted the SymbianOne audience to be aware that the company has Open Sourced their mobile development suite. In the near future, Volantis Mobility Server is to be Distributed Under Open Source License and Available Immediately as Free Download. An interesting, yet more common move these days as we've seen a number of application development tools go the way of the open source movement (ie. Android, MapGuide, Maemo and many others). Moving forward, the contests continue, many of them offering developers an amazing opportunity at exposure that you simply can't buy. Sony Ericsson will be announcing the winner next month for their Content Awards. Winners will be announced on Dec 18 and will be recognized in 5 categeories: Gaming, Imaging, Productive Mobility, Music and Audio, and Themes and Graphics. Our friends at Tele Atlas have extended the entry deadline for the CES Attendee Choice Awards to Dec 1 - $135,000 in prizes (cash & map data) are up fro grabs in addition to having a chance at showcasing your Application at CES!

Finally, Nokia World is taking place next week in Amsterdam. SymbianOne will be there (look for Glenn at the venue) to hear the latest from Nokia's project leads and getting a glance at what we can expect from Nokia as we head into 2008. Updates from Nokia World will be hitting Glenn's Flickr (see also flickr tag "nokiaworld") as well as our SymbianOne Mosh - you can also get these images via this widset channel - Speaking of the very cool Widsets... Have you registered for the SymbianOne Widset Channel yet? . Glenn will also provide short updates via Jaiku and Twitter. Those of you heading to Amsterdam, have a safe journey! Are you on facebook?
