If you think you know the name you may well be right: EMCC Software are the folks behind the Nokia Developer Series book Developing Series 60 Applications. But there is much more to EMCC. Its two stands at the show are showcasing its development services and a number of its collaborative projects, including the Magpie Mobile Technology content delivery system.
EMCC Software’s two booths at the Symbian Expo focus on different, but complimentary, aspects of its business. The "EMCC Software Development Services" stand will feature the company’s range of mobile product creation services while the other stand, "EMCC Software Mobile Solutions", focuses on products developed and brought to market by EMCC and their Application Partners.
The Development Services stand focuses on EMCC’s software creation services. As a Symbian Competence Center, Series 60 Competence Center and a Symbian Training Partner EMCC has an impressive portfolio of skills and experience.
“EMCC Software has unrivalled independent Symbian OS development experience,” says Garry Partington, Chief Technical Officer at EMCC Software. “We have worked with Symbian OS since the start and in all areas, from the operating system core right up into GUI development, across the entire range of platforms. We can also offer anyone who wants to create Symbian OS products or services a flexible approach ranging from knowledge transfer with training, through consultancy and software development right into partnerships. We believe we can therefore offer any company a route to get their product or idea from concept to market.”
The Mobile Solutions stand will feature an update on Magpie Mobile Technology, a system that delivers “snacks” — live, personalized data from the Internet—directly into Symbian OS smartphones. The system requires users to select channels offered by their service provider from a menu, and then appropriate snacks are delivered over-the-air as they become available. The difference with Magpie is that the snacks then integrate with the built-in applications on the phone. For example, the day’s weather may get sent to the calendar application so when the user checks what their day has in store they can also see the weather. One interesting features of Magpie Mobile Technology is that any application, including third party applications, can be Magpie-enabled and register to receive snacks.
In addition the stand will feature a number of other innovative products from EMCC’s Application Partners, including Floofs from SleepyDog and pic-toc™ from Tictocology.
“The projects we are showcasing on our Mobile Solutions stand are a practical illustration of the full service lifecycle that EMCC can offer,” says Garry Partington. “Our involvement in the Nokia Developer Series has shown the world just part of our Symbian OS skills. The show gives us the opportunity to showcase our full range of competencies.”
The two EMCC stands should have something for just about everyone, with the main focus on:
- Companies wishing to outsource Symbian OS development, augment their in-house teams, manage their projects or just improve their Symbian OS competence.
- Network operators and handset manufacturers looking to license solutions from EMCC and its Application Partners, including Magpie Mobile Technology.
- Innovators who want more information on how becoming an EMCC Application Partner can bring their products to market quickly and with less risk.
