Symbian Expo Preview: Silk Print E-mail
Written by SymbianOne

So what is a communications agency doing writing software? All will be revealed at this years Symbian Expo with the official launch of Silk.

Explanation agency Clear (www.makeitclear.co.uk) believe they have cracked the elusive nut when it comes to creating a seamless, dynamic 2-way channel for delivering content and services to smartphones. “Today’s smartphones deliver extraordinary communication capabilities,” says Brant Emery Silk Product Manager. “But the problem of tying content seamlessly into these features has not really been addressed.” Brant believes that Silk solves this problem. Developed as a result of Clear’s work with Orange, Silk represents a natural evolution into software to improve the mobile user experience. “We started out with a clear model for delivering content, rather than needing to write software,” says Brant. “I believe this puts us in a unique position and has allowed us to create a product which blends the best creative solution with smartphone technology.”

Silk will support several smartphone platforms but Symbian OS is by far the most important one, but this is only part of the reason Clear have chosen the Symbian Expo to launch the platform. “Several of our staff attended last years show,” says Brant. “What impressed them was that the show attracted not only the typical mobile players, operators, handset manufacturers and developers, but there was a strong representation from companies which traditionally are outside the industry, media companies, media providers and aggregators, a key audience for our technology.”

Brant says that Silk will provide a cost effective platform for branded content, be it media, consumer products or services, to be delivered to www.silkmobile.com) will provide some teasers for the product’s capabilities in the run up to the Symbian Expo, but all will be revealed come October.

Watch out for more Symbian Expo Previews in the coming weeks. Visit the Symbian Expo web site: www.symbian.com/expo for more information.
