This document from Forum.Nokia describes how to use IrCOMM in the Nokia 5140 imaging device - IrCOMM is a specific infrared protocol. Details can be found at http://www.irda.org/
The Nokia 5140 imaging device supports Java™ IrDA serial port but the IrCOMM API is a Nokia proprietary API, which does not fully follow the MIDP 2.0 specification even if it provides the same features. The difference is that when an IrCOMM link is requested, the URL is different from the one defined in the MIDP 2.0 specification. In future devices that support IrCOMM, it is intended that this API will be modified to be a MIDP 2.0 compliant API (that is, it will use a MIDP 2.0 defined URL).
