Siemens presents standardized mobile e-mail push solution Print E-mail
Written by Siemens
Thursday, 07 October 2004
The E-Mail-Push and PIM (Personal Information Manager) SyncSolution from Siemens builds on open standards in accordance with the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) and runs on all smart phones, PDAs and other mobile devices based on Symbian Series60, Symbian UIQ and MS Windows Mobile 2003.

At the VISIT 2004 European IT Forum of Fujitsu Siemens Computers in Augsburg, Germany, Siemens Communications (stand A2.10) for the first time demonstrated the functionality of an open e-mail push solution on various mobile devices, such as smart phones and PDAs.

The Siemens solution for the real-time synchronization of e-mail, addresses and calendar entries is based on open standards and can be integrated in all existing mobile communications networks.

The E-Mail-Push- und PIM (Personal Information Manager)-SyncSolution from Siemens builds on open standards in accordance with the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) and runs on all smart phones, PDAs and other mobile devices based on Symbian Series60, Symbian UIQ and MS Windows Mobile 2003 (smart phone and PPC PE). Synchronization is handled by a SyncML DS (DataSync) push expansion module. At VISIT 2004, Siemens demonstrated the e-mail push solution live via direct connection to an external server using a Siemens SX1, a Fujitsu Siemens Pocket LOOX 720 and an MDA III.

The new standard e-mail push solution can be incorporated in all existing mobile networks and integrated and operated simply in corporate IT environments. Mobile operators and telecom service providers can thus offer corporate customers secure, mobile access to intranet and internet for their employees. Thanks to the “push” function, users no longer have to go through the tedious process of calling up incoming e-mails; instead, when an e-mail is received, it is immediately sent to their mobile device and simultaneously to the mailbox of their desktop PC. To avoid duplicate entries and additional manual effort, all entries and deletions run in parallel on both devices. E-mail, addresses and calendar entries are automatically reconciled in real time between the corporate server and the mobile device.

Siemens Communications

Siemens Communications is one of the largest players in the global telecommunications industry. Siemens is the only provider in the market that offers its customers a full-range portfolio, from devices for end users to complex network infrastructures for enterprises and carriers as well as related services. Siemens Communications is the world’s innovation leader in convergent technologies, products and services for wireless, fixed and enterprise networks. It is the largest Group within Siemens and operates in more than 160 countries around the world. In fiscal 2003 (year-end September 30), its 60,000-strong workforce posted sales of about 17 billion euros.
