UIQ Selected for 3.0 Print E-mail
Written by UIQ
Friday, 01 October 2004

UIQ Technology today announces a new partner program, UIQ Selected for UIQ 3.0. At the same time UIQ Technology announces two selected member companies of the program: Packet Video and Mobile Digital Media (MDM).

Ronneby, Sweden, 1 October, 2004 - UIQ Selected is a program created by UIQ Technology and is designed to facilitate and speed up the creation of smartphones based on the UIQ Platform. When developing new smartphones based on the UIQ platform, UIQ Selected enables a reduction of development costs, a more effective integration process and a shorter time-to-market. Members of UIQ Selected are third party software companies that can provide mobile manufacturers with key applications that have been checked, validated and pre-integrated for the UIQ Platform.

“We are committed to provide our licensees with the best applications and therefore it is important to establish strong partnerships with key industry leaders”, says Johan Sandberg, CEO, UIQ Technology. “The applications we select are not mandatory, but we recommend them to our licensees as we know that the selected applications work well on the UIQ platform”, he adds.

The first products to be submitted for UIQ acceptance are the PacketVideo Media Player, that supports streaming, progressive download and playback with support available for all major mobile content types, including video and audio, and also the PacketVideo Camcorder™ & Digital Camera, that lets you record your own audio and videos directly on your phone using our optimized encoder libraries in order to play them locally or send them to others via MMS. pvCamcorder uses an author engine which optimized codecs to provide smoother, better-looking recording of audio, video and digital photos.

"We are very pleased to our participation in the UIQ Selected program," says Leon Chicheportiche, Vice President of Sales for PacketVideo Europe. “PacketVideo works with technology providers like UIQ and creates the world’s leading multimedia solutions for mobile handset OEMs. UIQ's flexible architecture helps us offer custom outsourced embedded software solutions including PacketVideo media player, camcorder and 2way video telephony, that deliver excellent audio-visual quality to the mobile consumer."

Also the first product to be submitted for UIQ acceptance is the award winning Quickoffice Premier Suite. Translated into over 40 languages, Quickoffice Premier UIQ includes Quicksheet, Quickword and Quickpoint. With Quickoffice Premier, users can edit Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and view PowerPoint presentations, all in native file format or e-mail attachments directly on their UIQ phone.

“The invitation to participate in this elite program is a great accomplishment by our software team. UIQ Technology is certainly a very valuable partner and an industry leader that offers enhanced device interaction for Symbian based smartphones”, noted Barry Cottle, CEO of MDM. “The Quickoffice Premier software suite is certainly a very compelling and user-friendly application that benefits the Symbian ecosystem and its licensees.”

The applications are exclusively chosen. Only one application is selected in each area.

More partners will soon be announced.
