WhereverTV announces plans to add Miracast support to its Android application Print E-mail

Today's consumers want to watch video on the big-screen, but prefer browsing and navigating on touch screen devices such as smartphones and TabletPCs

WhereverTV Broadcasting Corp. (OTC Pink: TVTV), a leader in delivering over-the-top (OTT) subscription television services to a variety of devices including ConnectedTVs, streaming media players, smartphones and TabletPCs, today announced plans to add Wi-Fi Alliance's Miracast screencasting capabilities to WhereverTV's Android application for smartphones and TabletPCs.

The Airplay Alternative
"Miracast is the AirPlay alternative for streaming video from your Android device to your television," explained Mark Cavicchia, TVTV's CEO.  "In October 2012, this innovative technology got a tremendous boost when Google announced it would implement the Miracast solution in Android 4.2 and beyond and has since made it available on the Nexus 4 smartphone. As we continue into 2013, there will be a rapidly growing number of smartphones and TabletPCs that will take advantage of this technology. And since Google is now activating more than 1.3 million new Android devices every day, it only makes sense that WhereverTV's Android application be enhanced to include Miracast capabilities as well."

Mr. Cavicchia continued, "It is estimated that Apple has shipped more than 8 million Apple TVs, including 2 million during the final quarter of 2012. However, these numbers are only a small fraction of the total number of Wi-Fi enabled smartphones and TabletPCs in users' hands and TVs in their living rooms. It is this much broader audience that the Wi-Fi Alliance is targeting with Miracast."

Industry analyst IHS iSuppli expects over 1.5 billion devices to ship in 2016 with the Miracast technology. There are already 135 Miracast certified display devices (e.g. televisions) available today from Samsung, LG, Sony, Toshiba and many others. Android smartphone manufacturers, including market leaders HTC, Nokia, and Samsung, have already certified 54 different source devices.

Benefits to Consumers
"Today's consumers want to watch video on the big-screen, but prefer browsing and navigating on touch screen devices such as smartphones and TabletPCs they keep nearby," said Mr. Cavicchia. "Both Apple's AirPlay and Wi-Fi Alliance's Miracast address this consumer expectation. But unlike AirPlay's video streaming capabilities, which are limited to Apple hardware, Miracast relies on Wi-Fi Direct to deliver content between smartphones, TabletPCs, TVs, and set-top boxes from a number of manufacturers.

Mr. Cavicchia concluded, "From its inception, WhereverTV has been committed to providing consumers with as many different viewing options as possible. We believe the emergence of Miracast as an Airplay alternative has tremendous and far-reaching benefits to our Android customers around the world."

The updated WhereverTV Android application with Miracast support is expected to be available by the end of 2Q2013.
