The Nokia Lumia 920 Feature Pack - A Look At The 920 Hardware Print E-mail
Features - SymbianOne Articles

I recently received a "teaser" package from the Nokia Connects crew showing off some of the pieces of the Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 device which will be coming out later this year.

I was a little surprised by the package, at first thinking I was sent an actual 920 device... no such luck though! The teaser pack is designed to introduce us to the amazing build that can be expected from this impressive device. In typical Nokia fashion, the package was a very classy, shiny, impressive box and was engraved with "Nokia Lumia 920" just to tease me even more.

Inside was some of the main pieces of the Lumia 920 in an effort to show off the impressive build and high quality parts. There were 3 sections to the package (as seen below in the images) each showing off a special, unique feature of the hardware.

Polycarbonate body

The largest piece sent was a cover (mine was in yellow) touting the polycarbonate body. This body material is actually made of the same material that is used  in the perimeter barrier of hockey rinks so I'm guessing it will withstand a few bumps and drops - I'm really digging the vibrant yellow!

Corning(R) Gorilla (R) Glass

Not to be outdone, the glass found on the Lumia 920 is designed by Corning and apparently this is a special sheet of glass that is highly resistant to damage, including salt and heat - up to 400 degrees C - we are warned not to attempt heating the device to this temperature ourselves!

Carl Zeiss Lens

Perhaps the most used feature of any high end smartphone is the camera. Nokia has once again raised the bar by including an impressive Carl Zeiss Lens with the 920, according to the docs, the lens has a surface accuracy of less than 1 nanometre, 100,000 times thinner than a human hair!

Nokia Optics Module

Designed for optimal low light performance, the module is apparently 300x faster than average human reaction time and monitors its position in real time.

Overall, the hardware pieces shipped were impressive and solid... I can't wait to see all the pieces put together and hold a 920 in my hand!
