Paragon Software Joins API Alliance to Grant Third-Party Developers Open API to Advanced In-App Translation Tools in 32 World Languages

Instant Access to Open API, no Registration Required. Publishers and Developers are Invited to Integrate Free Premium Content Dictionary Feature into Their Own Apps for Android and iOS.

FREIBURG, Germany – August 6, 2012Paragon Software Group, the leading dictionary and reference software developer for mobiles and computers, announces its agreement with the Open Dictionary API Alliance (ODAA), the first non-commercial open community aimed at providing open versions of in-app translation tools to software developers and organizations. Now third-party developers of e-books, journals, encyclopedias, office documents and social media apps for Android and iOS can integrate instant in-app word translation functionality and cutting-edge dictionary support for more than 32 world languages into their own apps. Through this integration, mobile users can read foreign literature and documents in multiple languages without leaving the active application.

As more people work, travel and communicate internationally, which requires them to understand and speak foreign languages, instant translations and reference availability through ubiquitous mobile devices becomes increasingly important. The API Alliance will help mobile developers and their app users to easily access reliable, trusted foreign-language reference content without fees, enabling smaller developers to maintain their price structures.

“Paragon Software brings the API Alliance and third-party software developers its 19 years of mobile dictionary, multi-language handwriting recognition and translation tool development expertise for all popular platforms. Our partners include the world’s top publishers, such as Oxford, Merriam-Webster, Encyclopaedia Britannica, and many others. It’s a two-way benefit for both developers, who can offer their apps to any language audience, and smartphone users, who can access any app they want without limitation to the language barrier,” commented Alexander Zudin, Paragon’s CEO.

230 multilingual Slovoed dictionaries for over 32 languages are now available to mobile app developers worldwide through the ODAA. Geometer Plus LLC has recently successfully integrated Paragon’s translation feature into FBReader, one of the most popular free e-reader applications for Android devices, granting readers of electronic books access to the breadth of Paragon’s portfolio of comprehensive branded dictionary content from the world’s top publishers. “After a successful integration of Paragon’s dictionary feature into our FBreader app, the download rate increased by 40%. Direct in-app translation feature is a definite advantage to the user,” commented Nikolay Pultsin, Geometer’s CEO.
