Symbian Expo Preview: ThinPrint Print E-mail
Written by SymbianOne

Want a print out from your UIQ or Series 60 phone? Stuck for a solution? ThinPrint are showcasing two products at Symbian Expo which could be the solution.

German mobile printing specialist ThinPrint are providing their Public Printing solution to attendees at the Symbian Expo. Public Printing allows users of any device with email or web access to print documents without any additional software, where they have access to a Public Printing Kiosk. The device user simply logs onto the Public Printer Server over the web or emails the document to their local Public Printer Service. The server responds with an email including a PIN code which they then take to the Public Printing kiosk, enter the PIN code and the document is printed.

While Public Printing is a solution for any mobile device ThinPrint’s second product, Content Beamer, is strategically targeted at Symbian OS. Content Beamer is a Symbian OS device client which interfaces with a backend content Beamer Server. The Server can deliver any format of data including documents, web pages or database content stored on a corporate network or anywhere on the internet. On request the Server delivers a text view of the document, if the document is of interest user can then request the Server to deliver a print file, which can then be printed on any Bluetooth or Infrared enabled printer. Alternatively if a printer is not available the content can also be sent via fax. ThinPrint will be launching the latest version of Content Beamer at Symbian Expo with new features including improved security with LDAP and SSL support plus an integration solution for Microsoft Exchange.

“When ThinPrint considered developing device applications for the mobile device arena we chose Symbian as the best platform on which to enter the market,” says Thorsten Hesse, ThinPrint’s Regional Manager APAC. “Supporting Symbian is strategic position for ThinPrint and the Symbian Expo is the ideal venue for showcasing our products and develop partner relationships within the Symbian community.”

ThinPrint are sponsoring the Network area at Symbian Expo, which is where the free Public Printing Kiosk will be located. Full details on the service can be found at http://www.thinprint.com/symbian04/
