Today, on the summer solstice (N hemisphere) Nokia used the occasion, fittingly, to announce to the World the much anticipated Qt powered Nokia N9 and also outline the company's strategy for connecting the next billion users to the web. Read on for a recap of Stephen Elop's Address.

We believe there's great opportunity to deliver Qt apps to a much broader audience.. a terrific environment for developers using QML.. supported by an active community of a half million developers. Part one of the strategy comes in Nokia's planned release of their next dual SIM device, the Nokia C2-03. It actually supports up to 5 SIM cards (I believe) and the device is reported to provide a simple to use, fast experience via Symbian S40 (yes, Symbian is here to stay and will be supported through 2016) and will be the affordable solution to help connect the next billion device users who are currently not provided with a viable solution providing web access. This is particularly crucial in developing Asian markets... users will spend more time online than ever before!
The second, and perhaps most highly anticipated announcement at Nokia Connection was regarding the much anticipated Nokia N9 - perhaps destined to be the next Nokia Flagship device - we're guessing that a late 2011 release in some markets is expected. The Nokia N9 is fashionably modern in appearance, with a sturdy rectangular shape, metallic look and feel, and simply put, it's ALL screen! The screen is the real selling point of the N9, taking up the entire device it offers the user touch Ui and swipe. USers can expect the following functionality and features from the N9:
Instant online experience
- Nokia Maps
- Fast, 12 megapixel camera (supporting HD video capture and stereo sound)
- NFC
- Swipe UI
- and much more!
