Sybase Addresses Market Need for Hosted Device Management and Personally-Owned Devices in the Enterprise

DUBLIN, Calif.-- Sybase, Inc. (NYSE:SY), an industry leader in delivering enterprise and mobile software, today announced the latest release of Afariar, the industry's leading mobile device management and security solution. Afaria 6.5, a key component of the comprehensive mobile platform from Sybase, comprises new hosting options via a highly-secure multi-tenant infrastructure, enhanced security updates, and a new policy based model for enabling simplified device management across a range of platforms and smartphone devices including iPhone.

In addition to providing enterprises with multiple sites and business units with a cohesive way of managing company-issued and employee-owned devices, Afaria 6.5 now enables customers to manage various device types in hosted environments while maintaining centralized control.

"Partnering with Sybase has enabled Inmar to provide our customers with services that simplify the management and security of a wide array of remote and mobile devices, allowing us to focus on the core areas of our businesses," said Jeff Pack, senior manager of Remote Relief SM Services for Inmar, a leader in providing technology-driven logistics management solutions in the consumer goods and healthcare markets. "Afaria's new features and multi-tenant support are well suited for our hosted environment, providing additional capabilities that will allow us to more effectively utilize our hosting resources while providing customers access to a centrally managed, streamlined environment that fully protects and secures remote and mobile data."

"The enterprise mobility market is constantly evolving as organizations look for new ways to manage mobile deployments and the adoption of personally-owned devices continues to rise," said Willie Jow, vice president of Mobility Marketing, Sybase. "We are meeting the industry demand to deliver the power of Afaria management and security to a wider audience through hosted managed services and support for the iPhone."

To simplify the management of an increasingly mobile workforce, Afaria 6.5 now includes device identification and search enhancements, wipe and lock control options, and sophisticated profile settings. The device security capabilities are also expanded through integrated antivirus and firewall components, new application control capabilities, Nokia device encryption, and an expanded Windows Mobile data security manager feature set.

Key Features of Afaria 6.5 Include:

    * Multi-tenancy infrastructure and hosting options for management of multiple sites or tenants using a single server farm
    * iPhone support with over-the-air provisioning, certificate-based policy enforcement and enforceable administrative policy lockdown control
    * Application control to block (blacklist) or allow (whitelist) specific applications from being accessed by end users on Windows Mobile devices
    * Data Security Manager enhancements including best-in-class Symbian data-at-rest encryption, increased complex password, and device lockdown capabilities
    * Policy-based management model to increase administration ease of use
    * Integrated antivirus and firewall features for improved security using a single connection
    * Open Mobile Alliance Device Management (OMA DM) terminal security and session control enhancements for clientless device management
