Cloudmark Introduces Comprehensive Solution for Combating Growing Mobile Messaging Threats Print E-mail

Cloudmark's MobileAuthorityTM Solution Combines Actionable Data, Content Filtering and Messaging Security Expertise to Protect Mobile Operators and Customers from Spam, Phishing and Virus Attacks

SAN FRANCISCO--Cloudmark, Inc., a global leader in carrier-grade messaging security, today announced MobileAuthorityTM, a new, comprehensive offering to protect mobile operators and customers against increasingly malicious messaging threats and abuse. MobileAuthority is a carrier-grade messaging security solution that delivers a unique blend of technology, services and expertise for the best overall mobile messaging protection. With MobileAuthority, mobile operators can identify malicious senders, detect malicious content for SMS and MMS, and leverage expert recommendations to better protect their environment and customers.

"The continued rapid growth of mobile messaging has created an environment that is ripe for abuse by attackers, and the situation will undoubtedly worsen for both operators and their customers if steps are not taken to address messaging security," said Michael Osterman, founder of Osterman Research. "There is a growing need for solutions that will not only protect customers from messaging threats, but also relieve the cost and infrastructure burden that mobile spam volume is placing on operator networks."

Mobile messaging attacks have increased exponentially due to the introduction of unlimited messaging plans, the proliferation of open networks, smarter devices and the increasing use of mobile applications. According to a new Harris Interactive survey, commissioned by Cloudmark, of 1,812 U.S. adults who own mobile devices, 44 percent of device owners indicated that they had received mobile spam. Left unprotected, mobile spam will result in a deluge of support inquiries and costs, customer dissatisfaction and churn. The sheer volume of mobile spam can slow the delivery of legitimate messages and strain the overall performance of wireless networks. Meanwhile, new attack methods continue to emerge on mobile networks, as evidenced in recent research1 that points to what Infonetics Research analyst Jeff Wilson calls "a dramatic increase in mobile threat activity...with over 400% growth in the number of Trojans seen in the wild for Symbian and Windows Mobile alone."

MobileAuthorityT-Reducing Costs, Increasing Security and Improving Service Quality

Cloudmark's new MobileAuthority solution leverages actionable sender data and advanced content filtering combined with Cloudmark's team of security experts to deliver the highest levels of protection against spam, phishing and virus attacks, and reduces the risk of service disruption thereby enhancing the trusted mobile environment. The MobileAuthority solution also replaces the need for organizations to build on-site teams for messaging monitoring and management, and drives operational efficiency.

MobileAuthorityT combines three vital components to defend operator networks against messaging abuse and threats:

Cloudmark Sender IntelligenceT-Leveraging real-time sender reputation data, Cloudmark Sender Intelligence technology enables mobile operators using the MobileAuthority solution to detect and block spammers, either within the operator's network or from a partner network.

Advanced Mobile Content Filtering-MobileAuthority precisely identifies malicious content and stops mobile messaging abuse by using Cloudmark's Advanced Message FingerprintingT and real-time feedback from Cloudmark's Global Threat NetworkT. Cloudmark MobileAuthority provides approximately 99 percent filtering accuracy of spam, phishing and virus attacks.

Message Security Service and Domain Expertise-Dedicated monitoring and management of mobile environments by a team of messaging abuse experts. Operators receive network visibility into spam and targeted attacks to better protect their customers and network.

"As mobile messaging threats continue to increase, operators are demanding solutions to protect their users and reduce the burden on their networks," said Jamie de Guerre, chief technology officer at Cloudmark. "With MobileAuthority, Cloudmark provides the technology, people and data needed to effectively safeguard their customers against mobile threats."
