This information from Resco, the developer of PhotoViewer and News! for S60 devices, provides an intereting glimpse at which device owners are adding software. Look out for the strong performance of the E90 and E71.
This year has been very turbulent for the S60 community, with new products being announced on all fronts. Our S60v3 applications Photo Viewer and News have fared well – the question is: which device class brought us the most sales?
Nokia devices make up 95% of our software sales – while Samsung’s S60 products may look cool, they are apparently not accepted by customers as they make up just 6% of our software sales. Hundreds of customers purchasing an E90 were forced to update their application library – this led to the significant dominance of E-Series devices in this year’s sales figures:
Nevertheless, the N95 remained the individual strongest seller over 2008, followed by the E90 and the immensely popular E71. Surprisingly, the N95 8GB and N96 have not been too significant, causing less than 5% of our total sales volume:
When looking at sales over the last 30 days of 2008, a surprising trend is revealed. Most of our traditional best sellers have become weaker (the communicator lost significantly, as did the N95). On the other hand, other devices began to catch up – this is a good sign indicating that more and more S60 devices are accepted by customers:
