Nokia friendView - location-aware micro blogging and more! Print E-mail

New from Nokia Beta labs another cool social networking application to enjoy on your GPS-enabled handset, FriendView.  Reead on for a first look at the application running on a GPS-enabled Nokia N82.

I haven’t loaded it yet but I’ll be sure to grab it shortly... enjoy the video and intro from Stefan… See also http://www.nokia.com/betalabs/friendview

Note: you can now friend me using gisuser

About FriendView:

Nokia Friend View is a location and micro-blogging service that helps you stay in touch with your close friends. It let’s you share where you are and how you feel from home, work, or on the go. With Friend View it is easy to meet up at only a moment’s notice.

Testing the Application...

I managed to find a bit of time to download and test the friendView application on a Nokia N82. First I grabbed the application from here. Installation was simple and painless. In order to activate it though you will require an Ovi account and username.

You can get FriendView and test it for youself by jumping to the Nokia  Beta Labs FriendView page The application has been tested with Nokia 5320 XpressMusic, 6110 Navigator, 6210 Navigator, N95, N95 8GB, N82, N96, E71, E90, N80 and E61. Should work on all Nokia devices based on S60 3rd edition.

I found the app very simple and friendly to use. When someone wants to get connected as a friend a message appears under your options and you'll have the option to accept or refuse friend requests. The application itself I find is very attractive with pleasant little graphics and icons, the maps appearing in the background are very visually appealing and make it quite fun. When you click on different friend conversation bubbles (arrow up or down) the map in the background will quickly change to reflect that friend's location... way cool! So far the only annoyance I found was the constant poping up of a certificate message which I had to accept. Otherwise, I just need a few more friends to get rolling! You can friend me by contacting gisuser... have fun!
