Expanded coverage brings consumer-ready location to millions of European consumers

Boston, MA - July 14, 2008 -  Skyhook Wireless, provider of the Wi-Fi Positioning System and XPS 2.0, the hybrid positioning system, today announced its formal launch in Europe. The launch includes a massive coverage expansion throughout the UK and Europe and the establishment of sales and operational offices in the region. Skyhook's launch will be showcased at tonight's Mobile Monday London event, "Enabling location based applications."

Skyhook has already mapped over 16 million Wi-Fi access points in Europe, and now provides coverage to over 130 million people in Europe.  Skyhook's fleet of 200 European data collection specialists has driven over 750,000 kilometers to date and continues to expand coverage every day.

"Skyhook's European expansion is an important step towards our goal of delivering consumer-ready location across any environment, indoors or outside, in rural areas or downtown, in Berlin or Boston," said Ted Morgan, CEO of Skyhook Wireless.

European application providers are taking advantage of Skyhook's European expansion. UK-based BuddyPing and Rummble and Dublin-based Locle are integrating Skyhook's software into their applications. By working with Skyhook's positioning system, these cutting-edge mobile social networking and search applications are responding to the consumer demand for fast, accurate, and reliable location determination in all environments.

Skyhook is sponsoring the Mobile Monday London event, "Enabling location based applications" to highlight Skyhook's expansion in Europe and the growing role of location in mobile applications.  Speakers will include Ted Morgan of Skyhook Wireless, Ben Ward of Yahoo! Fire Eagle, Charles Wiles of Google Gears, Andrew Scott of Rummble, Justin Davis of Buddy Ping, Mark White of Locatrix, and Matt Womer of W3C. The event will be held at 6:30 pm, 14 July, at the CBI Conference Centre. More information can be found here: http://mobilemonday.org.uk/

About BuddyPing

BuddyPing was the first mobile social utility available in the UK market. Established in 2005 BuddyPing enables users to operate a single device and single application whilst on the move to communicate with not only their local friends but also inform friends online about their location, and current status.

BuddyPing combines the powerful attributes of a mobile with the ability to organise and enable an individual to interact with their friends in both the phone address book and online social networks such as Facebook, MySpace, Bebo and Twittr.  By aggregating all of these online networks, BuddyPing allows an individual to organise their friends and contacts into different groups and to make their location, a status message or multimedia content available to any of their friends.

BuddyPing is an intelligent bridge between a person's "virtual" and "real" social networks utilising their mobile phone. BuddyPing uses location information to enhance the customer experience.  BuddyPing using, LBS lookups, GPS, WPS (with Skyhook), or simply a user can tell the system where in the world they are.  The service can be accessed via either a WAP (web internet) session, via a java application, or symbian client both of which can be downloaded onto the mobile handset.

About Locle

Locle, based in Dublin, Ireland,  is a social mapping application for mobile phones that combines information from your mobile handset address book with social networks such as Bebo, Facebook and MySpace to create mapping services that show users where their friends are.  Locle enhances the mobile web experience with "here's where I am, and here's where my friends are".

The Locle application is a combination of a web service and downloadable mobile phone software.  When the Locle mobile client is activated, it identifies the user's location and presents the location of "friends" who also use the application -- even if they do not have GPS on thier phone.
Friends can be both contacts from your mobile phone address book or contacts from your social networks.  As well as keeping track of friends and family, Locle can keep you up to date on relevant information to your location such as local events, news, weather and provide details on local restaurants, cinemas and ATM machines etc.
