The Platform Promise: S60 Devices From Samsung - Java technology was heralded as write-once-run-everywhere - we know the reality was somewhat different. As the first Samsung S60 devices arrive in the SymbianOne offices Richard Bloor asks if the S60 platform serves Symbian C++ developers better. In this article Bloor tests the Samsung SGH-G810, SGH-I550, SGH-L870, and SGH-I8510 (INNOV8) S60 devices.

HelloSoft launches 3GPP compliant FMC client HelloMobileCommunicator-FMC™ for use on the Nokia E-series on the S60 platform

On April 10, HelloSoft launched the 3GPP compliant FMC client HelloMobileCommunicator-FMC™ for use on the Nokia E-series on the S60 platform. With the S60 being the world’s most popular software platform for smartphones, HelloSoft has been diligently working on the S60 platform to bring Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) to Next Generation Networks (NGN). The S60 Platform (formerly Series 60 User Interface) is a software platform for mobile phones that uses Symbian OS. The S60 is currently amongst the leading smartphone platforms in the world. It is developed primarily by Nokia and licensed by them to other manufacturers.

HelloMobileCommunicator–FMC is a standards-based complete solution enabling mass-market deployment of low-cost and power-efficient fully featured handsets. HelloSoft’s award-winning and commercially deployed comprehensive SIP-based VoIP technology forms the core component of the product. This 3GPP compliant product leads the way for FMC deployments with it’s Voice Call Continuity (VCC) feature offering seamless handoff between any access networks (Wi-Fi, WiMAX, WCDMA, EVDO, HSDPA/HSUPA).

Ron Victor, VP & GM, for Business Development quoted in the press release, “We are excited to be able to provide our IMS/VCC technologies for Nokia E-Series devices and other popular S60 platform based mobile devices. Adding the Nokia S60 platform to our portfolio of supported platforms for FMC, enables our service provider and enterprise customers to broaden the number of handset choices available for FMC applications.”

HelloSoft has been conducting interoperability testing over the past year and continues to work with infrastructure partners to test any and all platforms with our IMS/VCC client. Announced partners include Accuris Networks Aricent, Azaire Networks, NewStep, Personeta, Sonus, Networks and Tango Networks.
