Penrillian has recently released an enhanced version of its popular uSTL library
for Symbian OS C++. This is great news for the developer community as it now
supports both Series 60 Edition 3 and UIQ devices.
The major benefit of uSTL is that it generates very little object code, making it
highly suitable for Symbian OS applications that must be downloaded over the air
or installed in ROM. The latest release offers additional features and a more
complete set of STL functionality.
The additional functionality includes all the algorithms defined by the C++
standard, plus some additional IO library functionality not present in Symbian OS
9:
- fstream, istringstream and ostringstream classes, and
- the vsnprintf function needed for robust Standard-C code.
“We’re pleased to release our latest version of uSTL. We’ve listened to the requests of the
Symbian developer community and we have implemented many of the suggested
changes. We now have a quality open source library, which is a big improvement on the
previous version and it now supports both UIQ and Series 60 based devices.“
Charles Weir, Managing Director.
uSTL is available as a free download from www.penrillian.com/stl under the
MIT Licence. There are virtually no restrictions on use.
