UIQ Technology Selects Electric Cloud Software to Boost Software Development Productivity Print E-mail
Written by Electric Cloud
Wednesday, 16 April 2008
Electric Cloud®, leading provider of software production management solutions, today announced that UIQ Technology, an independent software provider to the world's leading mobile phone manufacturers, has selected Electric Cloud software to increase productivity and create new efficiencies in the development of UIQ, its open platform.

ElectricCommander and ElectricAccelerator tapped to automate and accelerate the build-and-release process for UIQ's embedded mobile phone technology.

UIQ is an open, flexible and customizable user interface and application development platform for leading mobile phone manufacturers. It is pre-integrated and tested with Symbian OS, the leading industry standard operating system for smartphones. Today, UIQ is used in leading mobile phones from Sony Ericsson, Motorola, BenQ and Arima.

UIQ Technology has chosen Electric Cloud's ElectricCommander® and ElectricAccelerator® software to enable fast, automated continuous integration during the critical build-and-release phase of the UIQ development lifecycle. Continuous Integration provides developers with rapid feedback on their code changes through fast, automated builds and tests each time code is checked in to source control. This leads to earlier, more frequent tests and better software quality.

"Our goal is to completely automate continuous integration, all the way from the developer submitting code into our source control system to the actual release. To succeed with this ambition - speed, performance and scalability is of course of crucial importance," said Björn Mårtensson, Tools Engineering, UIQ. "ElectricAccelerator has already led to a reduction in build times of 7-8x, and in our initial experiences, ElectricCommander is clearly up to the task of automating and managing our very complex production processes. With the new efficiencies delivered by Electric Cloud, we can add processes that we couldn't do before, such as more quality assurance tests, while meeting aggressive deadlines and feature sets."

ElectricCommander is the only enterprise-class solution for automating and managing software build/test/deploy processes. It is language-and build tool-agnostic, making software production tasks in any environment more repeatable, more visible, and more efficient. ElectricAccelerator uses patented technology to execute parallel builds across scalable clusters of standard servers to reduce build times by as much as 20 times.

"Mobile phone software is one of the most complex technologies in the embedded software world," said Mike Maciag, Electric Cloud CEO. "Companies like UIQ are increasingly turning to Electric Cloud to deliver dramatic improvements in development productivity, time to market, and software quality."
