The folks at fring have been hard at work, trying to make the fringME! web widget even better and available to even more fringsters. So, their clever developer guys (in addition to enabling the widget for UIQ) have developed a Flash version for web pages that don't support Java script.
Originally the fringMe! widget was available for S60 devices only, but now it also supports UIQ devices (simply select More > Settings > Manage channels and subscribe to the fringMe! channel. So now visitors to your web site can chat while you are logged into fring, although the Find Me feature of the fringMe! widget is not yet available for UIQ phones (no GPS!).
This means that your entire community of online buddies can reach and find you on your fring-enabled mobile from anywhere on the web, whether they're fringsters or not. Visitors to any of your web pages, blogs, and pretty much anywhere you have a bit of internet of your own will be able to see instantly whether you're online, offline, or busy in a call and also chat with you.
In order to get started with fringME! you need the latest version of fring Download (version 3.3). Then you visit the fringME! web page to choose a fringME! widget design, copy and paste a small bit of html code onto your chosen web pages, switch on and configure fringME! on your mobile handset, and away you go.
As an example, you can check out the Flash version of Richard Bloor's fringMe! widget in the bottom left hand corner of every SymbianOne.com page.
In addition, the features of the fringME! widget will be expanding, with more very cool stuff coming soon. |
