A note from Nokia reps this week informs us that the Nokia viNe application will be rolled out of Beta soon... possibly even this week. viNe is a web service that enables users of the application to share their journeys, along with media collected along the way. As a long-time Sports Tracker user, N95 enthusiasts, and evangelist of all things mobile and geospatial, I was provided with a pre-release version of viNe - details and a complete "How To" install and use the application are provided... enjoy! It was back in June 2008 that the E71 was officially released to the public - the selling points for the E71 were a sleek, stylish do-it-all device that came with Mail for Exchange mobile email client - pre-loaded with the Nokia E71. Actually, the device boasted much much more than these attributes as you'll see below in my findings after having the pleasure of making the E71 my main device for 3 weeks... enjoy the recap, the images and the videos!

TOKYO, February 25, 2008—Red Bend Software, the market leader in Mobile Software Management, today announced that its vCurrent Mobile solution for firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updating has been implemented in the N705i and N705iu mobile phones manufactured by NEC for NTT DoCoMo.
The N705i was released on February 1, and the N705iu on February 15. This new adoption follows the initial introduction of Red Bend's firmware update solution by NTT DoCoMo in November 2007 with the N905i/N905iu handsets, also manufactured by NEC.
The adoption of Red Bend's software by a large number of new models from mobile device manufacturers and service operators demonstrates the high reliability and performance of the company's mobile software management solutions.
The N705i combines a stunning design created in collaboration with the "amadana” designer brand of household appliances. The phone offers one-segment viewing, FOMA High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and WORLD WING global roaming for 3G and GSM networks.
The N705iu handset is an ultra-thin (9.8 mm folded), ultra-light (about 99 g) handset packed with features including FOMA HSDPA, E-money, "Uta Hodai” music download and other services. It combines thinness, practical utility and full multimedia capabilities.
Corporate results announced by Red Bend Software for the fourth quarter of 2007 show that the company's FOTA client solution is utilized in 255 million mobile phones across 137 models worldwide. Red Bend's vCurrent Mobile has been adopted globally by manufacturers including LG Electronics, Motorola, Sharp, Sony Ericsson, NEC and Toshiba. Red Bend forecasts that shipments of handsets featuring its software will reach a cumulative total of 300 million mobile devices in the first quarter of 2008.
vCurrent Mobile is based on Red Bend's patented FOTA update client technology, making it possible to update firmware quickly and over-the-air while a consumer is using the phone, for superlative cost effectiveness. The fail-safe function ensures a valid update even in the event of an interruption during the update process, such as power-off. vCurrent Mobile supports Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Device Management (DM) standards, and is interoperable with OMA DM-compliant servers.
FOMA and WORLD WING are registered trademarks of NTT DoCoMo, Inc.
