Volantis Device Library reaches 5000 with addition of Nokia N96 Print E-mail
Written by Volantis
Wednesday, 13 February 2008

Wireless industry's largest device database increased to include new Nokia N96 handset

February 13, 2008-Volantis Systems now dominates the device coverage for carrier and content providers with the 5,000th addition to its industry leading library. Volantis provides the Intelligent Content Delivery T software delivering mobile content to more than 250 million mobile phone users and harbors the most notable count of devices worldwide. Nokia's latest N96 phone, freshly introduced at the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona, Spain is the 5,000th device added.

The N96 while not yet available to the public is supported by Volantis content optimization. The mobile device is the most advanced Nokia handset to date, offering both a pristine mobile Web experience and 16GB of internal storage.

"The large screen of the N96, and the fact that it is designed for video are aspects that make the mobile internet more exciting and usable for consumers, and therefore, more interesting for advertisers," commented Brian Cowley, CEO at Ad Infuse "Being able to optimize the experience for the latest devices is of tremendous value to our customers, and highlights the value of our partnership with Volantis."

"We congratulate Volantis on reaching the milestone of capturing information on 5,000 mobile devices," said James Pearce, Vice President of Technology at dotMobi. "This proves Volantis is an ideal partner in providing device information to dotMobi's DeviceAtlas, particularly in helping dotMobi bring the very latest handset information to the mobile development community."

The Volantis database is the wireless industry's largest and most detailed, with devices defined by as many as 650 feature and performance attributes and in use across the US, Europe, China, the Asia Pacific and Africa.

"This continual increasing in mobile devices demonstrates the amassed demand for mobile content optimization," Volantis CEO, Mark Watson observed. "We aim to provide our delivery solutions for all devices and carriers that desire to engage their customers without compromising the quality of their content. The introduction of N96 to the library illustrates the device spectrum we can offer service to as soon as, or even before, they reach the hands of the subscriber."

The database covers such features as device operating system, browser type, useable screen size, and video download capacity, plus MIME types and codecs for supported content types. The Volantis Mobility ServerT, a robust mobile content delivery platform, leverages the device database for the optimized delivery and presentation of pages, navigation & menus, messages, downloads, and client content, regardless of device type.

Volantis made its Mobility Server available as a free download in November 2007. The company has long contributed to a community standards process, driven by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), to create the Device Independent Authoring Language (DIAL) specification. Web development markup languages that comply with the DIAL specification, such as Volantis-created XDIME, can be used interchangeably to create content viewable on any mobile device.

To support the Volantis Mobility Server, Volantis has launched a new portion of its website to provide information on the new product version. The new website is located at http://community.volantis.com.
