China Wins World View with Sony Ericsson 2007 Print E-mail
Written by Sony Ericsson
Tuesday, 18 December 2007
Upcoming photographic talent, Wang Feng, 36, Beijing, from China has beaten over 74,000 entrants from across the globe to be crowned the overall winner of World View with Sony Ericsson 2007.

London, UK - 18 December 2007 - World View with Sony Ericsson is a global imaging campaign which aims to capture the best camera phone shots from around the world. The competition was first launched in 2006 with 15 countries taking part and a total 30,837 entries were received in its debut year.

Now in its second year, the 2007 competition saw World View almost double in size, with 24 countries* taking part world wide and 74,355 entries received.

The winning image of 2007 – Fly Between Me and the Blue Sky - wowed the international judges in the final stage of World View, when the picture was judged against the winning entrants from the 23 other participating countries.

The judging panel, which included David Viggers (Reuters Chief Photographer UKI), Tony Briggs (renowned photographer/director) and Martin Wezowski (Sony Ericsson Creative Design Center), voted for Wang’s winning image after being impressed by its creativity, humour and technical quality.

Commenting on Wang’s image, David Viggers said: “We have been amazed by the high standard of images submitted this year. It’s been a real challenge to select just one overall winner but Wang’s winning image really stood out.’

‘It’s a very high quality, sharp and well framed image, which blends a sense of humour with technical ability. It’s a simple, spontaneous moment captured on a camera phone to produce a visually striking, unusual image.”

As the overall World View 2007 winner, Wang has won a once in a life time photography trip for two so they can put their camera phone skills to the ultimate test. The three runners up - Karen Grace Maranon from the Philippines; Rizky Widiyanto from Indonesia and David Lahn Soerensen from Denmark - will also receive a goody bag of exclusive Sony Ericsson phone accessories**.

Wang Feng said of winning the competition: "I was surprised and very excited to hear I had won. I took the image after my car fell in to a ditch and got covered in mud. As I was trying to get the car out, the fly landed on the windscreen and I thought it was a perfect picture. I would not have captured it if I had not had my camera phone with me.

"I’d like to thank Sony Ericsson for providing me with the opportunity to take part in World View."

Merran Wrigley, Head of External Relations at Sony Ericsson, said: “We’ve been amazed by the quality, creativity and quantity of images received this year. It really shows the competition is growing from strength to strength. It’s great to see people from so many different countries and backgrounds taking part in this global competition and sharing their creativity.

“Camera phone photography is being taken more and more seriously as the quality of images improve to that comparable with stand alone digital cameras. People are now using their camera phone to capture spontaneous moments that occur when they probably wouldn't have their traditional camera.”
