FusionOne Announces Mobile Phone Backup Service for Java Platform Print E-mail
Written by FusionOne
Monday, 05 November 2007
The availability of MightyBackup on the Java platform allows carriers to offer the backup service to subscribers with Java-based phones, and extends the global market potential for FusionOne’s backup service.

MightyBackup for Java Extends the Reach of FusionOne’s Service to Java-Based Carriers and Mobile Phones

SAN JOSE, Calif.-- FusionOne, the leading provider of mobile content backup and migration services, today announced that its MightyBackup mobile phone backup service is now available on the Java platform.

MightyBackup, a service that safeguards consumers’ mobile phone address book and restores the information if the phone is lost, stolen or damaged, is based on FusionOne’s patented wireless synchronization platform. Its availability on the Java platform will enable FusionOne to tap into the increasing use of Java technology on mobile devices. According to research analyst firm Ovum RHK, there are over 180 operators currently deploying Java-based content and services, and it is estimated that approximately 85% of all mobile devices shipped by the end of 2007 will contain Java technology.

“This announcement is consistent with our vision to make every handset and mobile subscriber backup-capable,” said Rick Onyon, chief executive officer of FusionOne. “Our goal is for all mobile phone users to have the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the content in their mobile phone is protected and can be easily restored, regardless of their handset or carrier.”

FusionOne’s MightyBackup service, which is used by numerous global carriers, protects more than 400 million mobile phone contacts. MightyBackup, built on the robust and patented FusionOne Mobile Platform, wirelessly backs up the mobile phone address book to FusionOne’s secure data center, keeps the information continually up-to-date and automatically transfers the records when the user replaces or upgrades their mobile phone. The affordable service enables online management of the address book, automatic recovery of the information and a secure protection for the valuable contact information stored on a user’s mobile phone.

In the coming weeks, FusionOne will be announcing strategic partnerships with carriers using MightyBackup on the Java platform. In most cases, the MightyBackup service is launched as a carrier-branded application, with pricing determined by the carrier. MightyBackup is also available on the BREW platform.
