Oberon Media Opens Casual Games Developer API For Google’s OpenSocial Standard Print E-mail
Written by Oberon Media
Sunday, 04 November 2007

NEW YORK - November 2, 2007 - Oberon Media, the world’s leading multi-platform casual-games company, is one of the first companies to announce it will be launching a developer API for Google’s recently unveiled OpenSocial standard.

Google’s alliance of companies aims to introduce a common set of standards which will allow software developers to write programs for Google’s OpenSocial standard, Orkut, as well as others, including MySpace, LinkedIn, hi5, Friendster, Plaxo and Ning.

Oberon is the first to implement a casual games developer API using Google’s OpenSocial standard, enabling its online partners to drive social gamers to their web properties. In addition, Oberon will be launching several of its most popular online casual games including, ‘Rise of Atlantis’, ‘Scrubbles’ and ‘Dream Day Wedding’ on Google’s ‘Games on Orkut’.

Oberon is encouraging the developer community to submit their ideas for casual games to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , and is supporting them with a Software Developer Kit designed specifically for social casual gaming. Through this developer program, Oberon is enabling its developer partners to focus on creating fun and addictive flash games, while it handles the technical, monetization and community elements of social gaming on their behalf.

Oberon will take developers’ flash games and with its OpenSocial wrapper, create a viral social game, which include as an example, high score leader boards, so players can compare game scores with other social networkers or their friends, via their Gmail or Orkut accounts. Oberon will also handle the technical compatibility aspects of gadget development in a seamless way on the developer’s behalf and help developers monetize their games on social networks participating in the OpenSocial standard.

Ezra Kucharz, EVP, North American online operations & global online platforms commented, “We warmly welcome the OpenSocial initiative as another platform to deliver casual gaming solutions for our partners’ consumers around the globe. It will encourage more interactivity among casual gamers, more viral spread among this audience and result in more opportunities to monetize this activity for our partners. Together with our developer partners, we will enable people to interact more closely through casual gaming on Google’s OpenSocial Standard.”

As one of the world’s largest casual-games companies, Oberon Media has relationships with over 400 developers around the world. With an intellectual-property portfolio comprising of more than a thousand titles, Oberon delivers content through its global distribution partners of more than 350 online providers and wireless carriers including: Microsoft, Comcast, BskyB, Sprint, AT&T, Yahoo Games, Verizon, Electronic Arts, AOL Games, France Telecom and NHN. This leadership position places Oberon well to service the developer community’s needs and to help developers get their games published on Google’s OpenSocial standard.
