Getting your web content served to mobile device users has come a long way. It used to be that a publisher had to develop mobile channels via a service like AvantGo... no more. Many services are available for moblizing your content, one cool application is available from plusmo. Find news and publish your news with plusmo... think the web to go!
Plusmo enables users to easily and quickly create mobile widgets... no programming, no hassle, no problem! Plusmo enables bloggers or web publishers to easily generate mobile friendly content and create a widget making content accessible from any mobile device.
To start, the application detects the publisher's location and provides access to local content via the widget. Options for available content topics include news, sports, technology, and entertainment. Based on my preferences I elected to have relevant, local news from google, tech chrunch, and flickr delivered via my widget. I then add to my phone and send an SMS message to my handset that will provide a link to my custom news channel.
Cool but big deal, right? Well, this gets more fun when you elect to publish your own content to a widget. First, I elect to create mobile content from my blog. Now, here's a cool idea... I recently joined Jaiku and use the application to post updates and grab feeds from several websites and blogs that I maintain. So I simply pass plusmo the RSS feed url from my Jaiku, enter a title and some relevant tags, then my mobile channel is created for me. Optionally, I can also easily generate a mobile content channel for SymbianOne or any other site that has an RSS feed.
My plusmo channel is created and I can then grab the code, preview the channel, or email the code to myself. After viewing the channel all apears fine. Now I will email the code and also SMS to my phone. Once the code arrives I then view my new, mobile-friendly channel on my handset.
Plusmo on the handset - notice popular news and my custom news channels
Once the plusmo viewing client is installed onyour handset (most common devices are supported) the user can then view their own published content (I can access symbianOne news, my latest blog postings, even my flickr photos) and I can also select from a huge list of major news and content publishers (think Widsets). Custom news is just a couple of clicks away.
Creating mobile-friendly content is very simply using plusmo
I find that plusmo has done an excellent job at delivering a full-featured application enabling custom content creation and mobile publishing for bloggers and news makers.
