Vringo Qualifies New Wave Nokia S60 Models for Video Ringtones Print E-mail
Written by SymbianOne
Wednesday, 17 October 2007
Vringo, the pioneer in video ringtone sharing, has just qualified several additional mobile handsets operating on the Symbian platform as “Vringo capable.”

Handsets Join Roster of Symbian- and J2ME-Platform Devices That Support “Vringos”

As announced at the Symbian Smartphone show at the ExCel Centre here Oct. 16-17, five Nokia S60 phones will be added to the growing list of Symbian and J2ME (Java Micro Edition) platform phones that already support Vringo video ringtone sharing. The new Nokia models are: 5700, 6110 Navigator, E70, E62 and N75.

Support for the new handsets will begin concurrent with release of Vringo version 1.5, set for the end of this month.

In addition, the company noted that its service will also be supported on the soon-to-be-released Nokia N81–8GB. By qualifying a pre-production N81–8GB model, Vringo is ready to offer service to N81 users once this device hits the U.S. retail markets in advance of the holiday gift season. Vringo is also expected to certify the new Nokia E51 and N82 models as soon as they become available for testing.

“By adding new models to the Vringo lineup of supported phones, more and more people are now able to send and receive Vringo video ringtones,” said Vringo CEO Jon Medved. “What we’re seeing is that Vringo is leading the way to bring the highly customized mobile experience of Personalization 2.0 into the mainstream.”

Subscribers to the Vringo service use their buddy lists to deliver 2- to 20-second personalized video clips announcing the caller to the person being called—or to identify an incoming caller. Users select their personal Vringo clips through their mobile handsets or online. Vringos can also be shared with any subscriber in the Vringo community with a compatible wireless phone.

In addition to the handsets announced today, Vringo works with a variety of phones from Nokia, SonyEricsson, Motorola, HTC, Samsung and LG. For further details about Vringo, to see a list of supported handsets or to give the current beta version of Vringo a try, please visit www.vringo.com.
