Tuesday, 16 October 2007
Social.FM, the innovative social music service, has announced it will support the growing worldwide market for Symbian smartphones by bringing Social.FM, its leading social music service, to the Symbian ecosystem.

This native Symbian C++ version of Social.FM will support Symbian smartphones based on UIQ and S60, enabling users to enjoy a faster and more responsive mobile music experience.

Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS™, the market leading operating system for smartphones, which is licensed by the world’s leading mobile phone manufacturers, including Fujitsu, Mitsubishi, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Sharp, Sony Ericsson and more. To date, over 145 million Symbian smartphones have shipped worldwide to over 250 major network operators.

A unique and engaging social music service, Social.FM allows consumers to enjoy their favorite music anytime, anywhere, directly from their mobile devices. Consumers can access the music libraries stored on their PCs, as well as the socially-connected music libraries of friends and family. Social.FM also provides access to thousands of digital radio channels searchable by artist, genre and subgenre, and streaming podcasts from leading media sources such as CNN™, ESPN™, Major League Baseball™ (MLB) and National Public Radio® (NPR). Social.FM leverages social discovery, recommendations and user-contributed content to create a comprehensive music catalogue that is unsurpassed in depth and breadth with over 3.5 million unique tracks.

"With the launch of our native Symbian C++ version of Social.FM we’re demonstrating our commitment to the mobile social media market and further enhancing our wireless strategy," said Srivats Sampath, president and CEO of Social.FM. "By supporting Symbian OS, we can expand our Social.FM music service and strengthen our relationships with Symbian smartphone manufacturers and mobile network operators."

With a diverse and growing music catalogue, Social.FM is a groundbreaking social music service that integrates easily with mobile operators' content stores to drive substantial music download, video and ringtone sales. Social.FM is also fully customizable and localizable for domestic and international wireless markets worldwide.

“The emergence of the smartphone lifestyle in regional markets around the globe is stimulating consumer demand for rich media content and services,” said Jerry Panagrossi, vice president of US operations, Symbian. “Social.FM brings a new dimension of music delivery service to the Symbian ecosystem, one that enables smartphone users to share their music between friends and family.”

Social.FM is a trademark of Mercora, Inc. Mercora, Inc. also announced today that it has joined the Symbian Platinum Partner Program to engage more closely with Symbian and its ecosystem of top mobile technology innovators and service providers.

Social.FM will be demonstrated on the Symbian stand at the Symbian Smartphone Show from 16-17 October 2007. The Social.FM demonstration is one stop on the Symbian Smartphone Show Applications Trail; stop by and get your trail map stamped for a chance of winning a free Symbian smartphone at the show.
