MyScript handwriting recognition making strides on mobile user interfaces Print E-mail
Written by Vision Objects
Monday, 15 October 2007
Vision Objects, provider of the industry standard in handwriting recognition software and text input methods for mobile devices, will exhibit at the Symbian Smartphone Show 2007, the biggest smartphone event of the year in London, Excel Centre on October 16 - 17, 2007. Vision Objects will showcase its latest technology for the mobile market at Booth 28.

With the development of multimedia and text based applications, intuitive user interfaces are becoming an ever more important element for the success of mobile devices. This has recently generated a growing demand for touch screen phones, where stylus-based user interfaces enhance perceived product value, accelerate product take-up and help providers increase ARPU. High quality handwriting and gesture recognition are becoming vital for interactive navigation and natural data input.

For the last 18 months, Vision Objects has adopted a strategy to provide the highest accuracy in handwriting and gestures recognition and the widest scope of language support to the mobile communications market. MyScript technology currently recognizes 86 languages, the most recent being Arabic, Greek and Hebrew. These linguistic resources are specially designed for small footprint mobile devices such as smartphones, UMPCs, GPS and gaming consoles running on Embedded Linux, Symbian and Windows Mobile.

By using MyScript handwriting recognition, mobile device manufacturers improve the usability of handsets with touch screens and multi-touch technologies, which are particularly important for high growth markets such as China, India and others. Text messaging, contact management and email applications using natural text input with the fingertip or with a stylus become more efficient and easy to use.

“The increasing popularity of touch screen mobile devices is very exciting for Vision Objects. We strongly believe that MyScript handwriting recognition will play a major role in improving user experience for mobile handhelds featuring mobile data services”, says Stefan Knerr, CEO and founder of Vision Objects. “The Symbian Smartphone Show is a good opportunity for us to demonstrate our latest technology developments to the mobile industry.”

About Vision Objects

MyScript is integrated into many existing systems for high level form processing, personal information management, messaging and edutainment applications. Vision Objects’ mission is to develop and market accurate and high performance Handwriting Recognition & Understanding software for any platform using handwritten data entry through pen-based user interfaces such as Digital Pens, PDAs, Tablet PCs and Smartphones.
