Aylus Extends its MediaShare Suite with ImageRing Application – Permitting Real-Time Media-Sharing in All Phases of a Call

MediaShare Suite includes “Cool Caller ID” Application, Combining User Generated Content Trend with Ringtone and Wallpaper Market
The Symbian Smartphone Show

WESTFORD, Mass. & LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aylus Networks, Inc. — the provider of real-time multimedia sharing solutions for mobile networks — today launched their ImageRing application, bringing next generation voice and multi-media sharing services to millions of users worldwide.

Aylus is pioneering a new class of voice and multimedia share services (also known as “combinational services”) that allow mobile operators to significantly enhance standard voice calls. Calls can be enhanced by enabling subscribers to share “live video”, video clips, images, and even the screen display with another caller in real-time while they continue their conversation.

With ImageRing, Aylus combines two key attributes of successful subscriber services currently offered – the originality of user generated content (“UGC”) and the personalization appeal of ringtones and wallpapers. In a groundbreaking extension of combinational services, ImageRing allows the caller’s personally selected media (e.g., a picture of their choosing) to be dynamically selected as the image to be shown when the call recipient goes to answer their phone. From the recipient’s perspective, rather than just seeing the dialing party, they see a “cool caller ID” that shows what their friends wanted them to see. While on the call, the subscribers can then use the existing media share services from Aylus to enrich their call.

“Sharing pictures is a way to be personal and engaging and by bringing ImageRing to the Symbian platform, we’re opening up the benefits of flexible and timely media sharing to millions of smartphone users worldwide. ImageRing allows people to communicate a small part of their personality, their mood, their location, or some other detail in a visual manner optimized for instant gratification – as soon as the recipient answers the phone they can discuss the picture in “real time. ImageRing captures the essence of the popularity of User Generated Content – it’s personal, it’s selected based on my interests, and it’s shared with my friends”, said Aashu Virmani, head of Marketing for Aylus.

Services like ImageRing and MediaShare belong to a class called “combinational services” in the GSM standards and harness the unique potential of 3G, WLAN and WiMAX networks to permit multiple simultaneous media streams between two users engaged in a conversation. Because of their unique nature, these services form a motivating reason for subscriber to convert to 3G, and allow operators to differentiate themselves in the market.

“Symbian is pleased to be working with Aylus to help them deliver advanced, market-ready MediaShare services for Symbian smartphones,” said Jerry Panagrossi, Vice President of US Operations, Symbian. “Services like ImageRing empower smartphone users to have vastly enriched conversations, and is a great example of the innovative technology being developed in the Symbian ecosystem.” ImageRing will be released for smartphones based on S60 3rd Edition, and Symbian OS first.

Aylus will be demonstrating MediaShare solutions at The Symbian Smartphone show in London on October 16th and 17th, and will be speaking in the Mobile Futures seminar about the evolution of communications in the near future enabled by network and device advances. Aylus has been a Symbian Platinum Partner and a Forum Nokia Pro member since 2005.
