Motricity Germany and Optimobile AB announce the availability of Optimobile's VoIP client software UniPhone through SymbianGear.com. Individuals, small-to-medium enterprises and others can now enjoy low cost, or even free mobile voice calls by the use of the client software that makes it possible to call using regular phone numbers over the Internet with your Symbian UIQ Smartphone.

UniPhone follows the SIP-standard and uses the WLAN radio interface for wireless calls over broadband. The ability to make Internet telephony calls is subject to that the end-user has access to a WLAN broadband connection and a subscription with a relevant provider of IP-telephony services. The software can be purchased via instant download at 25€.

Optimobile UniPhone is a full featured SIP VoIP client enabling Voice over IP telephony towards SIP infrastructure. UniPhone provides the most convenient user-experience combined with a maximum cost-reduction for mobile calls.

Functions covered by the client software:

  • Communicate with other SIP-compatible VoIP applications and systems.
  • Call any host by its IP or domain address.
  • Call a regular phone using a SIP-PSTN gateway (typically through a VoIP operator or corporate IP-PBX).
  • Call a computer or IP-phone in a private network through a SIP proxy.
  • Handle multiple calls: put call on hold and switch between two active calls.
  • Graphical dial pad to type in numbers and send DTMF signals.
  • Multiple views in GUI for P990i flip open/closed and for P1i.
  • Support for SIP URL syntax.
  • Possibility to call using platform phone Speed Dial settings and to call via UniPhone Dialer, Contacts and Call History
  • Selectable flip actions to either no action (off), Answer or Answer/Hangup (P990 with flip)
  • Selectable auto-start of UniPhone at phone startup (on/off)
  • Selectable UniPhone hot-key enabling (on/off, "Internet" Button only)
  • Noise reduction settings (low, medium, low). Sensitivity before sound handling interprets noise as "speech".
  • Emergency call handling, preference to cellular networks whenever possible and fallback to VoIP when failing on cellular network.
  • Excellent sound quality with Acoustic Echo Suppression, Noise Suppression, Automatic Gain Control, High-Pass Filter, Voice Activity Detection, Discontinuous Transmission, Comfort Noise Generation. High packet loss robustness.

The Optimobile UniPhone client is currently is available for SonyEricsson's Symbian UIQ 3 platform. Further platforms such as Windows Mobile are supported and may be available in the future via Motricity's worldwide online portals. The software is available through the online-portal www.symbiangear.com, where it can be purchased via download at a price of 25€.
