New Video Ringtones From Discovery Channel Let Vringo Subscribers Surprise, Delight and Entertain Phone Buddies

NEW YORK-- Vringo, the pioneer in video ringtone sharing, announced today the addition of Discovery Channel video ringtones to its offering. Vringo users can share video clips of volcanoes, bees, skyrockets and any of 20 other videos using their mobile phones. Vringo subscribers worldwide will be able to personalize their own video ringtones, or “Vringos,” by downloading free clips excerpted from Discovery Channel programming.

Subscribers to the Vringo service use their buddy lists to deliver 2- to 10-second personalized video clips announcing the caller to the person being called or to identify an incoming caller. Users select their personal Vringo clips through their mobile handsets or online. Vringos can also be shared with any subscriber in the Vringo community with a compatible wireless phone.

“Vringo is thrilled to be able to add Discovery Channel content to the Vringo collection of video ringtones,” said Jon Medved, Vringo CEO. “From sunset scenes to raging elephants and brewing storms, there’s something for everyone—and it’s all free. By expanding our catalog of video ringtones, we’re helping Vringo users become more creative in how they communicate—another step toward making Personalization 2.0 a reality.”

“Discovery offers a wealth of content from natural history and wildlife to adventure and lifestyle that is perfectly suited for Vringo’s video ringtones,” said Doug Craig, senior vice president, New Media Operations, Discovery Communications. “We are continuously looking for opportunities to connect with new viewers and extend the reach of our brands. Vringo’s platform offers a fun and exciting way for consumers to interact with Discovery’s content.”

Discovery Channel content joins a growing list of video ringtones that are now available from Vringo, ranging from comedy to sports to cartoons and more. Also recently joining the Vringo catalog are music videos from Universal Music Group artists such as Snoop Dogg, Rihanna and Guns N’ Roses, and animated avatars from Meez.

The Vringo application received glowing praise and reviews during demonstrations at DEMO in January, the 3GSM World Congress and the JavaOne conference.

Phones that support Vringo include Symbian J2ME (Java Micro Edition) and Windows Mobile platforms like Nokia and SonyEricsson. Vringo releases for popular Motorola, Samsung and LG phones are also due in the near future. The company continues to work on expanding the Vringo feature set to enable more and more users to “Vringo” to the limit of every handset’s capability.

About Vringo

Vringo is the world’s first video ringtone sharing community. The company is making Personalization 2.0 a reality by enabling users to experience rich media no matter which mobile device they’re using—and for the first time to share that media with others within a community.

Vringo was co-founded in 2006 by venture capitalist Jon Medved, now chief executive officer, and mobile software expert David Goldfarb, now chief technology officer. Vringo’s management team comes from leading companies as diverse as Comverse, NMS Communications, Siemens, IDT, Earthlink and Shopping.com. Vringo Chairman of the Board Dan Ciporin was CEO and chairman of Shopping.com, until it was sold to eBay. Vringo is backed by private investors.
