The Platform Promise: S60 Devices From Samsung - Java technology was heralded as write-once-run-everywhere - we know the reality was somewhat different. As the first Samsung S60 devices arrive in the SymbianOne offices Richard Bloor asks if the S60 platform serves Symbian C++ developers better. In this article Bloor tests the Samsung SGH-G810, SGH-I550, SGH-L870, and SGH-I8510 (INNOV8) S60 devices.

First true push email service for mobile Google Gmail users Print E-mail
Written by emoze
Tuesday, 28 August 2007
Free service offers full synchronization to Google's Gmail users by providing the highest level of security to fulfill personal and corporate user needs.

RANAANA, Israel, August 28, 2007 – The first true push mobile email service for Gmail™ users worldwide, including Google Mail™ users (as the service is formally known in Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom), has been launched by emoze.

The free service, available for downloading directly to consumers’ mobile handsets at http://mobile.emoze.com, or via a web-based wizard at www.emoze.com, targets the millions of Gmail account holders (according to comScore Media Metrix) that would benefit from the automatic receipt of their emails on their wireless devices. emoze is committed to the democratization of mobile email by providing free push email service to the global wireless market that prefers to use any type of standard mobile device without the need for an expensive BlackBerry handset and monthly service.

“Given the increased adoption and availability of mobile devices, there is a greater flexibility for today's workforce to conduct business on the fly.  This has raised the level of expectation required of today's information worker and has created a demand for broader access to e-mail and other business applications needed to conduct business,” said Cheryl Gutowski, research analyst, Nucleus Research.  “Those who can't or don't want to justify purchasing a BlackBerry, can use emoze's push e-mail services to do the exact same thing, but from any device.”

emoze already offers free push email service to a broad range of email data sources and mobile device operating systems and can be easily installed on more than 800 different devices on the market. Unlike other providers, emoze service is truly a push solution, which does not require users’ mobile devices to periodically dial-out (while consuming battery life) and check for the receipt of new messages, calendar or contact changes. Instead, emoze automatically acts to route emails to users’ handsets at real-time after determining that their device is connected and available on the network.

Consumers and business persons, using Windows and Symbian based mobile devices, wishing to use the new push Gmail service from emoze can directly download the application that utilizes the native built-in inbox of the mobile device. There is no need for downloading any program to a PC or MAC. This simple procedure involves typing in http//mobile.emoze.com on their mobile phone. A simple press of the button downloads the application and then prompts consumers to fill in their username and password; it starts synchronizing emails and contacts immediately. Alternatively, an updated version has been placed on the emoze website, and is now available for download allowing the user various options to either push their office or personal Gmail account.  The procedure is simple and in a matter of minutes, the user will be able to fully synchronize emails in "real-time" at no service cost other than the data plan they establish with their carrier.

“Gmail is one of the top email services in the world and we’re recognizing the trend of business people and small firms using their Gmail as their main and functional business email account,” said Benny Ballin, CEO, emoze.  “For those that are more technically astute, they will appreciate that our application is not Java-based. This approach helps to significantly improve reliability, stability and performance of wireless devices such as battery consumption, CPU load and memory usage. By using the native contact and calendar clients of each handset as shipped by the handset vendor, we ensure the best possible user experience.”
