Wipro Technologies Joins IMS Forum Print E-mail
Written by IMS Forum
Monday, 30 July 2007

BANGALORE, India & EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. & DENVER-- Wipro Technologies, the global IT services arm of Wipro Limited (NYSE:WIT) today announced that it has joined the IMS Forum®, the industry’s only forum dedicated to the acceleration of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) application and service interoperability.

The IMS Forum is an industry-wide forum designed to foster the interoperability of IMS applications and services for wireless, wireline and cable broadband networks.

“We are pleased to welcome Wipro Technologies to the IMS Forum,” said Michael Khalilian, Chairman & President IMS Forum. “Wipro Technologies is a rapidly growing provider of global IT Services. Their expertise in IMS spanning across Service infrastructure, Network infrastructure and all important end user level integration, will be very useful in helping us to bring about the early adoption of IMS and truly convergent services across the industry.”

Nagamani Murthy, Vice President, Mobile & Consumer Electronics Group, Wipro Technologies said, “Joining the IMS Forum gives us a global platform to evaluate and position our solutions in the IMS arena. With the evolution of the IMS technology, Wipro has matured its IMS offerings towards becoming an integral part of the converged digital media delivery ecosystem."

Ms. Murthy further added that, “The engineering challenge in realizing this converged ‘Digital Media’ experience spans across device realization, network infrastructure development and service creation and delivery. With years of system integration experience in Mobile Devices and Consumer Electronics such as, Set-Top-Boxes, PMPs, Digital TVs, and Digital Cameras, Wipro is an ideal partner in realizing this Digital Media Experience.”

Wipro’s IMS Client Framework is an enabler for IMS deployment and for the development and deployment of new applications over various devices, independent of the underlying operating system. The framework helps in the development of IMS applications which can be readily deployed over various platforms like Symbian, WinCE and Linux, making it one of the compelling components for IMS service deployment.

Wipro also participated at the recently held IMS Forum, IMS Plugfest™ II Interoperability event, at the University Of New Hampshire (UNH-IOL) where it successfully interoperated its IMS Client Framework and applications with IMS client and server solutions from multiple vendors. The event helped Wipro to benchmark its IMS solution’s interoperability with various other components of the IMS Service delivery network.

Wipro has demonstrated its commitment for accelerating IMS adoption by building and showcasing point solutions using an IMS enabled suite of Service Enablers/Plug-ins, Application Building Blocks that can be integrated on any Service Delivery Platforms (SDP). This enables faster rollout of services based on Value Added Services like video delivery and mobile advertisement. These solutions have also been demonstrated in international telecom events such as VonSpring, IPTV Forum, TMForum, and NXTComm.

Wipro has strong expertise in the verification and validation domain which will enable telecom service providers to utilize the services for migration to IMS networks. Wipro has been offering its system integration expertise and IMS solutions for service creation and delivery spanning across network infrastructure, services infrastructure and end user devices. Such offerings enable key players of the IMS ecosystem to focus on the development and launch of market differentiated products and services.

About the IMS Forum:

The IMS Forum is a global, non-profit industry association devoted to interoperable IP Multimedia Subsystems services and solutions. IMS Forum’s mission is to accelerate the interoperability of IMS applications and services, enabling enterprise and residential consumers to quickly benefit from the delivery of quadruple play voice, video, Internet and mobile services over broadband via cable, mobile and fixed networks. The IMS Forum is the creator and organizer of IMS Plugfest™, the industry’s only event focused on IMS quadruple play services interoperability verification and certification.

Through its organized Plugfests, working group interaction, and other activities, forum members are able to develop cost-effective technical frameworks for converged IP services over wireline, cable, 3G, WiFi and WiMAX networks. IMS Forum Plugfest III will be held October 15-19, 2007 at the UNH Interoperability Lab. For additional information or to join the IMS Forum and the IMS Plugfest, please visit www.IMSForum.org.
