Applists.com Matches iPhone Simplicity to Bring Web Apps to Mobile Device Print E-mail
Written by Elias Corp
Thursday, 19 July 2007
Hanover, PA – Say hello to Applists. Elias Corporation today announced the formal launch of Applists.com, its proprietary patent-pending software built exclusively for iPhone users and third-party Web 2.0 application developers.

Through Applists.com, iPhone users can now quickly and conveniently locate the World’s iPhone applications with just a few taps on their screen. What’s more, they can store these apps in containers called application lists or applists.

Applists goes beyond the recent plethora of app launchers and desktops in the marketplace by allowing iPhone users to create multiple applists for their home, work, school or any grouping they can imagine, all in one place. It really helps to organize their apps in a way that is unavailable through any other product on the market.

Perhaps even more revolutionary, there are no ads or “gotchas” for iPhone users. The service is free, supporting the company’s mantra which, says Elias Corporation CEO Bill Denk, is simple: “respect people.”

“As consumers ourselves we’ve grown tired of the traditional advertising model – get a lot of people to visit your site, then throw advertising at them,” Denk said. “We believe that technology should enhance people’s lives, not abuse them.

“To that end, we will provide a free basic service to developers to assist them in tracking their apps usage along with other relevant metrics, so they can do what they love to do most: write code.

Denk conceived the idea for iPhoneDevCamp earlier this month. “One of the rules of BarCamp is that ‘attendees must give a demo,’” Denk said. “I remember thinking, we’re a smart, creative team, but there will be so much talent in the room, let’s strive for utility versus the cool factor. After thinking through all the possibilities and realizing the challenges, we acknowledged that the process of locating and bookmarking apps made perfect sense.

“So we simply set out to build it”

Denk’s primary motivation for attending the camp was to learn how to adapt the applications his team is presently building for the web, for use on the iPhone. “When I saw the video of Steve Jobs’ keynote in San Francisco in January 2007, I knew that’s where we needed to be.” said Denk. “From that moment I studied the keynote, and viewed iPhone videos for clues as to what that would entail. By February, I had built an entire interface for our one product. I attended the camp to learn how to bring it to a reality.”

While en route from BWI to San Francisco on Thursday July 5, Denk, an iPhone user for only a week, realized that the only way for users to access the iPhone applications they wanted was through traditional search engine like Google or Yahoo! “Once they found it, they would either bookmark the link or have to retype it each time,” he said. “For developers the challenge was having people find their great app. Because most developers aren’t marketers, there’s a lot of great stuff out there that people never get a chance to see or use.

“We’ve solved both issues in one fell swoop.”

The Applists.com website was created in just three days, from Friday, July 6 until Sunday, July 8. “As simple as it looks, it’s a very complicated application,” said Denk. “This really speaks to the talent and dedication of our team. We averaged one to two hours sleep each night.” Elias Corporation’s five member team launched the site with no fanfare on Sunday, July 8, “We did a simple 10 minute demo at BarCamp. That was it.”

In its first 24 hours the site experienced an unprecedented 1,000 unique visitors and has shown no signs of slowing since. As of July 17, 2007, www.Applists.com has received nearly 10,000 distinct visits, with more than 92 percent of visitors creating applists immediately, clearly substantiating the value of the product.

“Our approach is simple, unique, and we’re betting that consumers will appreciate the freedom to have a site that respects them,” said Denk.

“I’ve been asked how we’re going to make money without offering intrusive advertising. We have several ways to earn income. But, all of those ways include respecting people by bringing a greater value to all. Businesses and advertisers are a part of that. We need them. We need each other. It’s the delivery method that needs to change. We’re working with them now to bring it to fruition.”

Applists.com compliments the iPhone’s revolutionary multi-touch display which allows users to control their device with just a tap, flick or pinch of their fingers.

Applists.com even enables iPhone users to use their desktop Safari browser to add, update and modify their applists, which are instantly accessible when they pick up their iPhone.

System Requirements

Applists.com is built for the Apple Safari browser for use with iPhones, Macs and PCs.
