The Sony Ericsson W960 brings the total number of UIQ 3 phones from Sony Ericsson to five, of which two are now in the Walkman range. Read on for detials on the spec of this new UIQ 3 smartphone.
- Based on Symbian OS 9.1, UIQ 3.0 - an open platform for third party applications, providing great freedom of choice for users, an increased ARPU opportunity for operators and a business opportunity for content owners and developers
- Second Walkman phone with touchscreen from Sony Ericsson
- Connectivity via hi-speed UMTS and Wireless LAN (WiFi™), Bluetooth™, USB 2.0 and IrDA
- True multimedia:
- 3.2 megapixel camera with Business Card Scanner

- Media player for music, video streaming and playback (video playback at 30 fps comparable to TV quality)
- Hardware accelerated 3D gaming supported by OpenGL ES API as well as Mobile 3D Graphics API for Java ME (JSR-184)
- TrackID™ integration has been improved with text search ability (by artist, title, album and lyrics), added to the audio recording music recognition service available already on the W950.
- 8GB flash memory for music files
- New Media Manager PRO PC software for optimizing and transfer music, photos and videos to be used on the phone.
- Doubled RAM size compared to W950 (128MB instead of 64MB) and 400% increase in available RAM for running applications, significantly improving performance and multi-tasking

- Enhanced UI - short cuts and browser, new ‘More Applications’ desktop icon making content distribution channels and third party applications more visible
- Complete mobile office - Corporate and consumer push email, WLAN and VoIP enabled
- Developers can use the WLAN API (go to www.SonyEricsson.com/developer/symbian to download) to create applications using the WiFi feature
- >450 UIQ 3 apps available in Sony Ericsson Application Shop (www.SonyEricsson.com/applicationshop)
- Supports the Java Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) 1.1 environment:

- There are over 30 different applications embedded on the phone or promoted as Try & Buy applications through direct links on the phone to download them from the web.

- Vijay Singh Pro Golf 3D (hardware accelerated OpenGL ES game) embedded
- Nightclub Empire (Digital Chocolate) and QuadraPop touch (Java™ games) preloaded
- The planned Try & Buy and free apps available for download for the W960 are largely the same as for P1, including Audible (client for subscribing to and listening to audio books and news), a new OpenGL ES 3D game called Raging Thunder (Telcogames), two blogging applications (Mobile Blogger and ShoZu 3.0) and an updated version of Wayfinder Navigator (version 7) with 3D map view.
