Augmentra updates ViewRanger, adds new features Print E-mail
Written by Augmentra
Tuesday, 29 May 2007
Augmentra has updated its S60 off-road satnav application. It now supports the built in GPS on the Nokia N95 and track recording in any location worldwide, along with a host of other features.

ViewRanger 2.3 contains several improvements, a number of which have been requested by customers. In particular this update includes enhancements suggested by Cyclists, Mountain Bikers, Geo-cachers, Skiers and Joggers. We very much appreciate all your feedback and always welcome additional comments and suggestions. The main changes in this release are:

  • TripView The TripView displays a range of statistics about your current journey. You can configure which statistics are shown and can choose from several different screen layouts. The statistics include values such as distance, speed, average speed, time moving, estimated time of arrival, altitude and pace. You can save different combinations and layouts as profiles, and step through the profiles with the arrow keys.
  • Track & Route Analysis For a track you can display graphs of speed, altitude, GPS altitude and distance against time. You can display these individually or superimposed. For a route you can display a graph of altitude against distance.
  • International UTM Support The international UTM coordinate system is now supported. Tracks can be recorded and POIs can be created worldwide. This means you can use ViewRanger worldwide to record tracks, navigate to waypoints, create POI etc. We'll be announcing details of new international map availability soon.
  • Buddy Beacon You can send your location to the ViewRanger server. If you give friends your details, they can see your location either using their own copy of ViewRanger or using a web page.
  • GPS Tracks/GPX enhancement Amongst several changes is that tracks now store the GPS altitude, which can be exported to GPX files for moving your tracklogs into Google or PC-based map software.
  • And more... including Sunrise/Sunset times for your location in the Where Am I? panel.

Support For Nokia N95 Internal GPS

ViewRanger is now Symbian Signed accredited and therefore can use the internal GPS on the Nokia N95 mobile phone. ViewRanger will also use the internal GPS on the Nokia E90 and Nokia 6110 handsets announced by Nokia.

Symbian Signed is a program run by Symbian for and on behalf of the wireless community to digitally sign applications which meet certain industry agreed criteria. Symbian Signed promotes best practice in the design of applications and content to run on Symbian OS-based phones. Symbian Signed is endorsed and supported by network operators, handset manufacturers and developers. Testing is carried out by independent test house(s) approved by Symbian.
