Mimer SQL Mobile extended with many new features for mobile phones Print E-mail
Written by Mimer Information Technology
Friday, 25 May 2007
Mimer Information Technology has announces the new version of Mimer SQL Mobile that includes many new features that extend the product’s mobile aware architecture even further.

Examples of features are transparent handling of databases on removable flash memory cards, dynamic RAM utilization, and automatic upgrades. By using such features, handset manufacturers and other developers of mobile solutions can develop more feature rich applications in much shorter time.

Mimer is the first database vendor that brings enterprise class database functionality like full SQL, non-locking multi user access, and multilingual support to resource constrained mobile devices. Mimer SQL Mobile is now extended with several new features useful for developers of mobile applications.

One of the new features is the transparent handling of insertion and removal of flash memory cards. This means e.g. that music tunes stored on a removable flash card can be appended to the existing music files on the phone without any need for changes to the music player application. It is also possible to automatically create new tables on the flash memory card when it is inserted in the mobile phone.

With the new dynamic database cache, the Mimer SQL database manager allocates as much RAM as possible when database intensive operations are made (e.g. database build-up), while the allocated RAM is reduced to a very minimum when the database manager is idle. The actual size of the database cache is decided dynamically at run-time dependent on the workload and available RAM.

Another useful feature introduced in the new version of Mimer SQL Mobile is the automatic upgrade. When the applications and data on the device need to be upgraded, one single file is replaced on the device and when the database is restarted, all changes to the database, including new tables, views, indexes, SQL statements, procedures and triggers, are automatically applied.

“The pace in the mobile industry is increasing rapidly, with a growing demand for third-party software components to speed up application development. Here Mimer SQL Mobile plays an important role, since the need for an efficient and scalable SQL database is becoming more and more obvious,” says Stefan Eck, Sales&Marketing Director at Mimer Information Technology.

Information on many other new features in Mimer SQL Mobile 9.3 can be found on the Mimer Developers web site.

Mimer SQL Mobile 9.3 will be released by the end of June 2007 and support S60 3rd Edition and UIQ 3.
