UIQ Technology has recently started a series that offer an insight into the work of the some of the most innovative developers creating applications for UIQ 3.
In the first two articles in UIQ Technology's new series of case studies SymbianOne's own Richard Bloor has been talking to DreamSpring about DreamConnect and stoeger it about OutBank.
Australian developer Dreamspring first created Dream Connect for UIQ 2 devices to offer enhanced access to contacts. In migrating this application to UIQ 3, Dreamspring totally redeveloped the UI to take advantage of, amongst other new features, the new list view. Malcolm Lithgow, managing director and chief dreamer describes this as "a great user interface innovation". The study also includes a useful tip on optimizing list performance when adding new items to a list. The article can be downloaded here.
stoeger it has developed a mobile banking application called OutBank. Using the German Homebanking Computer Interface (HBCI) banking interface, OutBank provides Symbian OS phone users with a secure way of performing all their banking tasks. This article looks at porting OutBank from S60 3rd Edition and creating views within a UIQ 3 application. In addition, it examines the building box approach to UI development, which Tobias Stöger (founder of stoeger it) views as "significant advantage of UIQ 3". The article can be downloaded here.
The articles are available on UIQ's developer site (developer.uiq.com), which contains a wealth of information on developing for UIQ 3.
