MultiClipboard for the Nokia 9200 Communicator by Symbianware Print E-mail

So nobody is writing new applications for the Nokia Communicator these days. Wrong, Symbianware are still releasing new applications and MultiClipboard is their second new Communicator application in the space of two months.
MultiClipboard is one of those applications where the name really sums up what it does. But I’ll spell it out anyway, MultiClipbaord provides a clipboard into which you can store and subsequently retrieve multiple text items.

The application its self is accessible from the Extras menu after it has been installed. To start using MultiClipboard you need to open the application and turn it on with the “Turn On” command button option. Activation is shown by both a green on “light” and blue “Activated” text.

You can add items directly to the clipboard from within MultiClipboard using the “Edit” command button, and obviously the same command allows you to edit existing text.

On the main menu there are two notable options, one to move an item in the clipboard list (well two really one for up and one for down) and an option to set the hot keys.

Hotkey settings are provided for inserting and capturing text, but only the insert hotkey is on by default.

In action MultiClipboard is simplicity itself, when you are in an application where you can paste text ctrl+shift+Q (or your own hotkey sequence) opens up a list of the clipboard items. You then scroll to the item you want and insert it by chosing “Select” from the command buttons or pressing the enter key.

Adding text to MultiClipboard is equally straight forward, you simply select the text you want to add, press your hotkey sequence and the text is added. New text is always added at the end of the clipboard list, so for text you use often the move feature can be useful to place the item closer to the top of the list.

MultiClipboard will be most useful to people who use their communicator regularly to SMS as it will allow them to hold a set of commonly used message templates, indeed this is how Symbianware market the application. It can also clearly be used for any text templates used regularly in any document.

One slight disappointment was that although MultiClipboard can insert items into the sheet application it did not seem able to create items for text in the sheet (and yes for those who know your sheet commands I did alter capture hotkey first, ctrl+shift+W in sheet activates the column width tool.)

One cute little feature is that MultiClipboard does not paste your text as a block, but rather it types it in for you character by character, however I suspect the novelty will eventually wear off.

MultiClipboard is a simple piece of software that does its job efficiently, and is simple and straightforward to use. At $9.95 MultiClipboard should justify its cost in no time.

MultiClipboard is available with a 15 day trial, it can be downloaded and purchased at here at Handango.
