Scalado launches fastest image decoding with CAPS(tm) version 3.4 Print E-mail
Written by Scalado
Tuesday, 10 April 2007
Scalado AB, a leading developer of digital imaging software, has today unveiled the new version of its CAPS(tm) imaging Software Development Kit (SDK) for camera-phones, CAPS version 3.4.

New imaging SDK features autoscaling and autoresizing for MMS and is JSR234 Compatible

The new 3.4 version works with all previous CAPS modules and is fully compatible with version 3.3 released in 2006.  CAPS v3.4 has already been signed up by four of the mobile phone OEM's and ODM's on pre release, and Scalado hope to announce the addition of a number of key industry players to the ever expanding customer portfolio throughout 2007.

"We continually strive for improvements in the performance of CAPS and its compatibility with all handsets and operating systems, which help to simplify the integration into new camera-phones, said Mats Jacobson, CEO of Scalado says.  "CAPS is an innovative product and includes several unique patented features and we develop ideas and applications further through working closely on projects together with our clients."

CAPS has been developed and optimised for camera phones that feature the new generation multi mega pixel cameras, and offers an extremely CPU and memory efficient solution which drastically decreases both cost of image processing and processing times when performing imaging tasks. Images are decoded and encoded using Scalado's Image management technology, the main component of which is RAJPEG(tm), a Scalado patented JPEG codec technology.

Some of the new improvements in CAPS v3.4 include:

· CAPS v.3.4 is JSR 234 compatible, which allows applications that have been developed for JSR can now also benefit from CAPS' fast and feature rich imaging engine.

·The performance in both encoding and decoding is enhanced by up to 40% during usage and Scalado is still work to improve this performance and optimisation further.

·Automatic image quality enhancements in the CAPS ClearShot(tm) module. Improved image quality enhancements that enhance backlight in the camera application or editor.

·DRM compatibility enhancements

·Image autoscaling and autoresizing for best MMS image quality are implemented.

With CAPS mobile phone manufacturers can drastically reduce development and device costs and significantly shorten time to market by using CAPS. For this reason, more than 40 different mobile phone models on the market today already make use of the CAPS software engine, including devices from Samsung and Sony Ericsson.

Notes to Editors:
