Comarco, Inc. (NASDAQ:CMRO) , an industry-leading supplier of wireless test systems
for field applications, today announced software support for the Nokia N75 and
N80 phones, running Symbian S60 3rd Edition, on its 'QuOTA' handset- based automated
network test system.
- Software released for Nokia N80 and N75 Smart Phones, supports UMTS 850 deployments
-
ORLANDO, Fla. and LAKE FOREST, Calif., March 27 - The QuOTA system measures wireless
service quality by using standard subscriber handsets, under the control of a
central server, to automatically place voice and data test calls.
"QuOTA's distributed architecture, low cost and flexible deployment options allow
the system to be rapidly and widely deployed, providing a more statistically relevant
perspective of network quality than can be obtained through traditional methods,"
said Tony Vittimberga, product manager for Comarco Wireless Test Solutions. "With
support for Nokia's N80 and N75 phones, Comarco can now offer a QuOTA solution
for the majority of worldwide networks. Together, these phones cover GSM at 850/900/1800/1900
MHz, along with WCDMA at 850/1900/2100 MHz. The N75 is particularly relevant in
the Americas, where WCDMA is being rapidly deployed in the 850 MHz band."
QuOTA software is now available for both Symbian and Windows Mobile smart phone
devices, extending the options available to wireless network operators, and supports
testing on all popular air interfaces -- including CDMA 1xEV-DO, WCDMA, GSM, GPRS
and EDGE.
About QuOTA
The QuOTA system is designed to measure network performance on a wide scale basis,
allowing wireless service providers to actively monitor the service quality delivered
to their customers. Smart phones, running the QuOTA client application, are managed
by the QuOTA Control web server application. Tests may be designed, scheduled,
and executed using the QuOTA Control browser interface.
Because of their low cost, and compact form factor, QuOTA devices may be flexibly
deployed. QuOTA phones may be carried by wireless engineers or technicians, by
customers, or may be installed in fixed or mobile locations. QuOTA's back end
servers may be scaled to accommodate hundreds, or thousands of devices in the
field.
Under the supervision of QuOTA Control, QuOTA devices can automatically execute
tests, and measure the quality of voice and data services. Test types include
speech quality, using the ITU-T P.862 PESQ MOS algorithm, HTTP, WAP, FTP, PING,
MMS and SMS. Along with critical KPIs, QuOTA is also able to record network and
radio parameters, including Layer 3 messaging, giving wireless engineers the information
necessary to pinpoint and troubleshoot network performance problems.
