Frost & Sullivan Recognizes Autodesk for Location-based Services (LBS) Middleware Platform Print E-mail
Written by Frost & Sullivan
Wednesday, 21 March 2007
PALO ALTO, Calif., March 21-- Frost & Sullivan selected Autodesk, Inc. as the recipient of the 2007 North American Mobility Award for its location-based services (LBS) platform that brings together the technologies, content, and services needed for carriers to location-enable their service offerings.

The Autodesk LocationLogic platform provides the infrastructure, application services, content provisioning, and integration services for deploying and maintaining location-based services. The software gives application developers a set of open standards-based tools for creating new revenue-generating location services. LocationLogic also enhances the flexibility and reliability of mobile services by handling high-volume transaction loads.

"An impressive list of Tier-1 carriers has chosen Autodesk LocationLogic as a trusted solution for commercial location-based services," said Frost & Sullivan research director Brent Iadarola.

Autodesk LocationLogic provides tools carriers need to deploy high- performance applications that deliver personalized, location-relevant information to wireless users. The platform plays a central role in combining carrier network, location determination infrastructure, and geographic content with location-sensitive applications. As a result, carriers do not have to build out infrastructure themselves, and can work with developers to bring location-based applications to market faster and more cost-effectively.

According to Iadarola, "Tier-1 and Tier-2 carriers continue to deploy A- GPS technology that uses the TCP/IP capability of the existing network infrastructure, so carriers do not have to invest in costly equipment upgrades to bring location-based services to their customers. LocationLogic is well- positioned to take advantage of A-GPS user plane location interface."

Carriers who have added a location component to popular services such as messaging, mapping, mobile search, emergency assistance services, games, or common premium information are experiencing increased customer usage. Frost & Sullivan anticipates that wireless carriers incorporating location information with contextual data will find significant new opportunities for capturing revenue. Frost & Sullivan also anticipates other businesses will benefit from access to mission-critical location data and applications.

"It's an honor to receive the North American Mobility Award," said Joe Astroth, vice president and general manager for Autodesk Location Services. "Frost & Sullivan's recognition is quite an acknowledgement of our effort to provide wireless carriers and third-party developers with platform software, development frameworks, and professional services tailored to their needs, so that they can create distinctive and compelling location-based offerings that drive revenue and build subscriber loyalty."

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents the North American Mobility Award to the company that has developed an LBS platform that can benefit or revolutionize the mobile communications industry. Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
