Hollywood Genre Directors Tackle the Small Screen with Trailers from Hell Print E-mail

Even a bad movie can have a great trailer...

26 February 2007 - Elizabeth Stanley Pictures, Metaluna Productions and Mobile Streams’ US subsidiary, The Nickels Group, proudly announce the launch of Trailers from Hell (TFH), a new series available to view through websites and mobile devices around the world.

Trailers are those fast-paced 2-to-4 minute theatrical promo shorts that have preceded the ‘feature attraction’ since the dawn of sound and are an exciting montage of all the best parts of a movie that the producers want and need you to see.  These mini-videos include all the highlights but in just a few minutes of swirling letters screaming hyperbolic and promises of Thrills! Action! Mystery! Romance!

The Trailers from Hell series (www.trailersfromhell.com) can already been seen by Sprint subscribers via the Fun Little Movies premium channel as well as at www.metacafe.com.  Viewers can opt to watch the original trailer as a whole and/or enjoy a new version punctuated with humorous commentary by iconic genre directors.  The first five episodes of the show feature Joe Dante (Gremlins, Gremlins 2:  The New Batch, The Howling, Piranha) commenting on Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, From Hell It Came Monster from Mars, The Terror and The Unearthly.

Dante notes, “The bromide about these old trailers is that they were better than the movies they promoted. That’s only true in some cases, but they did deliver in-your-face excitement and breathless hyperbole at a pace the movies never could. I got my start in the movie biz cutting trailers at the tail end of the so-called Golden Age, before the ad agencies and focus groups took over. I love trailers. So join us in revisiting, or discovering for the first time, how much fun these sensational, absurdist slices of shameless cinematic hucksterism can be!”

Subsequent episodes are being planned from Mick Garris (The Stand), Mary Lambert (Pet Sematary) and John Landis (American Werewolf In London) and others to be announced.

“Short form content finally has a market place after the dot.com bust of ’01.  Mobile distribution and online sites such as metacafe.com have paved a way for this content to be viewed by fans whilst offering an attractive revenue model for the content providers,” says Jonas Hudson from The Nickels Group.
