The 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona next week will be on the air through mobile
TV. A DVB-H mobile TV network, operated by Abertis Telecom and provided by technology
company SIDSA, will cover the Congress distributing up to 10 mobile TV channels.
SIDSA, International technology provider for Mobile TV, Digital TV, IP TV, Broadband
and CAS, collaborates with the Spanish leader in infrastructures and telecommunication
services, Abertis Telecom, and other partners, to provide and operate a mobile
TV network covering the whole 3GSM World Congress, between 12th and 15th of February
in Barcelona. SIDSA will provide the headend and the Conditional Access System.
Ten mobile TV channels will be available through DVB-H-equipped mobile phones,
thanks to SIDSA’s POLAR PLUS platform, the smallest and most interoperable DVB-H
platform in the world. Among them, the Spanish commercial channels Cuatro, La
Sexta, and Antena 3, 40 Latinos (music), MTV, CNBC, 3GSM TV, Furia and CNN. All
of them will be free-to-air, except CNN which will be encrypted using KeyFly Mobile’s
technology by SIDSA. KeyFlyTM +mobile is a state-of-the-art Service Protection
and Purchase System, necessary to enter the mobile TV business. It is the core
of the business as it controls the access and provides the tools to distribute
the services on a pay-TV basis.
3GSM TV will offer the latest news on the Congress with contents specifically
dedicated to this event. Furia, backed by the Ministry of Industry and coordinated
by Abertis Telecom, will show the latest developments in mobile TV. Visitors can
watch all the channels a SIDSA’s booths (2J54 Hall 2 and CY14, Spanish Pavilion,
2º Floor).
The aim of the demonstration platform is to show interoperability among the different
DVB-H enabled devices that are going to be shown during the 3GSM Congress and
to make clear that DVB-H mobile TV transmissions are currently a reality. This
experience comes at a time when Italy has recently seen the successful roll-out
of two DVB-H services and when other countries, such as Finland, Germany, the
Russian Federation and the US, are preparing for the launch of DVB-H commercial
services.
The Spanish company already operated a mobile TV platform at IBC’06 and at Russian
CSTB’07 last week, distributing five TV channels. SIDSA’s POLAR PLUS platform
will start commercial operations in the Russian Federation from April, with the
launch of 15 mobile TV channels in the region of Sverdlovsk
POLAR PLUS meets all DVB standards and is the most interoperable platform in
the market. It includes all the necessary equipment for the service – Headend
with the ESG (the Electronic Service Guide) and Conditional Access System- to
enable DVB-H mobile TV broadcasts, including free and pay-TV services.
SIDSA will give real and live demonstrations of DVB-H mobile TV transmissions
at the 3GSM World Congress (booths 2J54, Hall 2, and CY14 in Spanish Pavilion,
2º Floor). The company will present the second generation of POLAR PLUS being
the smallest and fully integrated modular mobile TV platform in the world.
