A note from Nokia reps this week informs us that the Nokia viNe application will be rolled out of Beta soon... possibly even this week. viNe is a web service that enables users of the application to share their journeys, along with media collected along the way. As a long-time Sports Tracker user, N95 enthusiasts, and evangelist of all things mobile and geospatial, I was provided with a pre-release version of viNe - details and a complete "How To" install and use the application are provided... enjoy! It was back in June 2008 that the E71 was officially released to the public - the selling points for the E71 were a sleek, stylish do-it-all device that came with Mail for Exchange mobile email client - pre-loaded with the Nokia E71. Symbian Limited has announced a collaboration with Telefonica Móviles España to reinforce the role of Symbian OS™ in Telefónica’s mobile device portfolio. Symbian OS is the market leading operating system for smartphones.
The collaboration will enable Telefonica Móviles España to offer new mobile devices and services more quickly to its customers by increasing the use of S60 and UIQ on Symbian OS as respective software platforms for mobile handsets worldwide.
Telefónica Móviles España
“Selecting Symbian OS as a common technology platform across our phone range will help us reduce handset deployment costs, improve time-to-market for new service delivery and allow us to more easily deliver compelling content,” said Carlos Melendo, senior manager, handsets and smartcards, Telefónica Móviles España.

Telefónica will be able to ‘develop once, use often’, a key network operator benefit for choosing a platform based on Symbian OS, which provides a competitive advantage in a fast moving market.”
Symbian has shipped over 100 million smartphones worldwide and currently has over 100 different device models shipping in various regions from the world’s leading handset manufacturers including Nokia, Motorola, Samsung and Sony Ericsson.
