New version of mobile Webcasting software greatly expands number of compatible
phones primed for user-generated ‘one-button’ live broadcasts - ComVu also announces
it has joined the Forum Nokia PRO developer program.
CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW, LAS VEGAS – Jan. 8, 2007 – ComVu Media, Inc., a pioneer
in mobile Webcasting software and automated video streaming delivery, today introduced
a new version of its award-winning PocketCaster software for Nokia devices based
on S60, the world’s leading smartphone platform.
With the public release and availability of PocketCaster software for the S60
platform, ComVu also announces it has joined the Forum Nokia PRO developer program.
Only a select number of companies worldwide who have demonstrated industry leadership
are chosen as members. By becoming a member, ComVu is better positioned to ensure
the close integration of its software with Nokia’s devices and benefit from Nokia’s
extensive worldwide software distribution channels.
"ComVu’s mission to democratize broadcasting has taken a major leap forward with
this release," says William Mutual, ComVu CEO. “Nokia’s acknowledged leadership
and innovation in multimedia smartphones provides an ideal platform to further
ComVu’s vision. We look forward to facilitating the creation of user-generated
video by an ever growing number of mobile subscribers worldwide.”
The new version of PocketCaster also includes support for 3GP and Real Video
playback, which will significantly expand the number of viewers for PocketCaster
powered broadcasts. PocketCaster's breakthrough architecture allows ComVu to truly
deliver on the vision of wireless/fixed convergence, resulting in 'one-button,'
live Webcasting from tens of millions of phones, to hundreds of millions of mobile
and PC viewers.
With the worldwide reach of Nokia’s S60 devices, an explosion of user-generated
mobile video broadcasting—citizen journalism, a personal travelogue, family events,
enterprise field reporting—is now enabled with the push of a button.
How it Works
Once PocketCaster is installed, users simply press the “start” button and the
phone will begin taking a video. At the same time, the application will establish
a data connection and stream the video live from the phone to a server. From there,
the video can be propagated to a webpage where friends can watch what’s being
shot in real-time, or it can go to a broadcaster for breaking news or entertainment
purposes.
Because the video is automatically stored on a server, a copy of the video is
instantly available on the Internet when the “stop” button is pressed. Defaults
can be defined in advance, so that alerts are sent to friends and videos are automatically
posted to designated sites. PocketCaster has completely eliminated the uploading
process and overcome the limitations in video lengths due to local phone memory
or MMS capacity.
