AutoRama(tm) and Speedview(tm) will offer a flavour of the Scalado imaging applications
on show at this year's event
Scalado AB, a leading developer of mobile imaging software, announced today that
it will be showcasing some of the key features of its new CAPS imaging technology
at the Symbian Smartphone exhibition in London next week, 17-18 October. The
new CAPS v3.3 includes a wide range of innovative imaging applications that will
provide users with a true digital camera experience. Two notable features include
AutoRama(tm), which enables stunning multi-megapixel panorama effects, and SpeedView(tm),
which allows real-time browsing, zooming and panning of images. Both functions
operate on a mobile screen without compromising on speed or image quality.
"A major benefit of CAPS is its real-time imaging capabilities, which will put
an end to the frustrating wait times associated with capturing, viewing and editing
mobile images," says Mats Jacobson, CEO, Scalado. "We've designed all of the
CAPS features to be fun and easy to use, and we are confident that these developments
will transform the camera into an integral part to a mobile phone handset, instead
of just an added accessory."
Scalado's AutoRama features smart stitching technology which sews images together
at just the right place to produce perfect results, automatically and within seconds.
Even tricky panoramic shots are made easy, since AutoRama is able to track camera
movements as the user pans from side to side, sense when it needs to change exposure,
and give instant feedback via the telephone's vibrate function.
Meanwhile, Scalado's SpeedView offers real-time browsing, zooming and panning
of images on a mobile screen without sacrificing image quality. With Speedview
it is possible to browse through hundreds of images in a photo gallery, either
in full resolution or thumbnails, at high speeds, giving users a true digital
photography experience. In addition, SpeedView introduces SpeedView Meta Objects
(SPMO), which provides critical information that helps to speed up the decoding
process. This information can then be stored within a file format that supports
application-specific data (such as JPEG) or in an external database.
The secret behind AutoRama and SpeedView is Scalado's patented RAJPEG technology.
RAJPEG is a JPEG codec technology that reduces memory requirements, processing
JPEG input and output images in the compressed domain, thus enabling viewing of
any region of a JPEG image without the need to access the previous parts of the
image. RAJPEG rapidly reduces the amount of RAM memory required by a factor of
25x while still processing full resolution mega pixel images, and increases performance
and the speed for image manipulation by a factor of up to 10x.
Scalado's existing CAPS technology is already embedded in over 40 mid to high-end
mobile devices. Several leading mobile phone manufacturers, such as Sony Ericsson
and Samsung already develop imaging applications using CAPS, and the new patented
solutions of CAPS v3.3 will enable developers to quickly produce CPU and memory
efficient programmes that will drastically decrease processing times whilst freeing
up valuable memory capacity to perform other phone functions.
Scalado will be demonstrating the solution at the Smartphone show 17tt -18th
of October 2006, at Excel, London in Hall N4 at Stand 50, please feel free to
drop by and see them, or alternatively please contact Andrew Ball (details below)
to arrange a meeting, as CEO Mats Jacobson will be hosting press meetings on both
days.
